Drillingandservicepersonnelstruggledailywiththeoilandgasindustry'sinexperienced
laborforce.Thisinexperienceatthewellsiteresultsinexcessivenon-productivetime,
troubletime,andinvisiblelosttime.These,inturn,leadtounsafeincidentsandexcessive
coststotheoperator,thecontractor,andtheserviceindustry.ManagingWellsite
Operationsteachesparticipantstoapplyorganizationallearningprocesses,wellsite
technicallimitsanalysis,andmoreefficientuseofallresourcesatthewellsite.Goodwell
planningisessential.However,inspiteofverygoodplanninganddesignthereexist
geologicalandreservoiruncertainties,surfaceanddownholeenvironmentalconstraints,
failedequipment,andmisunderstoodpracticescoupledwithinexperiencedwellsite
personnelthatarecreatingunsafeworkconditionsanddrivingupdrillingcost.
Participantswilllearnhowtoidentifyandmitigatehiddenrisksthatoftenareoverlooked
duringtheplanning,design,andexecutionphasesofadrillingoperation.Theparticipant
willlearnhowtodissectandanalyzeanoperationalplan.Inaddition,applyingoperational
innovationsandadvancedmotionandtimeprocesseswillleadtoimprovedefficiencyof
wellsiterotaryoperationsandindividualwellsitetasks.Participantswillbeintroducedto
models,templates,techniques,andrealcasestudiesthatcanbeusedonthejob.This
coursebringstogetheradocumentedplanninganddesignprocess,maximizesdrilling
efficiency,andtransferstheexecutionplantothewellsiteforimplementation.
Participantswilllearntobuildeffectiveteamsbyusingacasestudyandapplyingtheskills
ofthecompanyrepresentative,drillingcontractor,andservicecompanypersonnel.
Criticalissuesareidentifiedandanalyzedtomaximizesafetyandreducedrillingcosts.
Similarly,engineering,technicalservice,anddrillingcontractpersonnellearntoanalyze
inefficientpracticesatthewellsiteandutilizetheirnewfoundskillstoimprovethe
operation.Drillingorganizationsareusingnewandcomplexdrillingtechnologyto
maximizereturnoncapitalcosts.Combinetheknownvariableswiththeinfluxof
inexperiencedpersonnelintheplanning,design,andexecutionphasesandyouhave

MR.MARCUSA.(MARC)SUMMERShasover30yearsofoilfieldexperienceandover15
yearsofhandsontrainingexperience.HejoinedPetroSkillsin2008andiscurrentlyV.P.
ofAcceleratedDevelopmentPrograms.Forelevenyearspriortothat,hefoundedandran
PetrEXInternational,Inc.In1980,hebeganworkingasadrillingengineerforAmocofor
fifteenyearsinvariouslocationsaroundtheworld.Hisbackgroundincludesoperations,
technicalsupport,anddrillingresearchfunctions.Since1986hehaswrittenanumberof
paperspresentedatSPE/IADCconferencesandseveralarticlespublishedinPetroleum
EngineerInternational,AmericanOilandGasReporter,etc.HereceivedaBSin
PetroleumEngineeringfromtheUniversityofOklahomaandisaRegisteredProfessional
EngineerinOklahoma.

MR.KENNETHJ.TALBOThasover45yearsofwellconstructionexperience,inclusiveof
10yearsoftrainingwellsitesupervisorsinwellcontrol,HPHT,anddrillingandcompletion

practices.Accomplishmentsincludeworkinginover11differentcountriesonremote
deepwater,jack-up,barge,platform,desert,andarcticrigs.Thisexperienceincludesa
65wellHPHTTuscaloosaTrendprogram(1979-85),andAmoco'sinitialexplorationand
appraisalwellsinNorway,Venezuela,andAngola.HereceivedaBSinPetroleum
EngineeringfromtheUniversityofSouthwesternLouisianain1975,haswrittenand
presentedseveralSPE/IADCtechnicalarticles,andisapatentholderforthedepth
orientationmarker.
