Reflection Essay
Human Origins: Reflection
What have I learned about evolution?
I now know its not JUST a genetic change in our ability to
survive. Its about a genetic change being successful in
surviving to environmental conditions. For example, if our
offspring acquired a genetic mutation for webbed feet,
there isnt really a survival need to survive on webbed
feet in humans. But if we acquired a genetic mutation for
a larger brain, we as humans can benefit more from in
our current society to have a larger brain for processing.
The Process of Natural Selection and adaptation in
Human Culture
Humans definitely went through a lot of trial and error in
Natural Selection. Developing a mind instead of natural
tools like claws and acute senses was a huge gamble in
our evolutionary state. It shows greatly as we discover
many different species of humans that have gone extinct.
We as homo sapiens seem to have gotten it right. But
what exactly did we get right? I believe the strong
development of culture and art gave us that push in the
right direction. Its not about being able to survive just on
a big brain. But how to make innovations and lasting

ideas to pass onto generations. I believe homo sapiens

have become a sort of super organism as we build and
learn from past generations and rely on people in society
that we dont know.
