Tenco was formed on one meaning ground rules that each individual has the ability and value.
Some capabilities come naturally although others have to be learned. At Tenco everyday is
committed to construct possibilities for individuals with disabilities to learn life skills, interact,
and work in the community. Tenco is a non-profit agency established in 1965, presently assisting
greater than 250 individuals with disabilities (Tenco Industries in Ottumwa, Iowa. (n.d.).
Tenco control residential services, vocational programs and recommend day programs in
various locations. Its services and products include an Adult Day Care Center of
Hope/Fulfillment Center. Tenco also services community based employment, greenhouse, prevocational, recycling, shredding, sub contract work, supported community living and vocational
services (Tenco Industries in Ottumwa, Iowa. (n.d.).
Mission
Improve lives of individuals with disabilities by investing in Tenco Industries, Inc. and
the individuals it serves.
Vision
Tenco Industries, Inc. will recommend individuals be given services for the possibility to
be presented financial assistance required to attain the objectives that are valuable to their
standard of life. Tenco is one of most well-known and visible establishments in southeast Iowa.
Tenco respect the interests and privacy of every supporter. It guarantees that outstanding support
and services are convenient for individuals with disabilities now and in the future. Tenco obtain
holdings and assets in the millions of dollars for the intent of achieving its mission ( Tenco

Demographic Information
As of April 1st Tenco have almost 250 employees serving nearly 300 adult individuals
with disabilities. It has a variety of services in 5 locations, with current incorporated services in a
new county that is directly the investment of new focus. Tenco anticipate 7 locations within the
next 3 months. Population 24,682 97% urban, 3% rural Estimated median household income is
$38,183 Median resident age is 37.2 years. For population 25 years and over, Ottumwa with
High school or higher, 84.0%, Bachelor's degree or higher, 15.7%, Graduate or professional
degree: 5.6%.

Tenco employees and their success are very valuable to their mission. Each employee is
regarded as a member of the team. Tenco policy is to work with every member of the team in a

While Tenco is non-profit agency it has no owners, but is instead overseen by the Board
of Directors and Board of Trustees who is over the Executive Director
Funding

Tenco invest in the individual it serves it is funded through taxpayers such as county,
state, and federal funds, sale of goods to the public and the United Way donations. The balance is
supplied by the Tenco Foundation. Tenco Industries is funded for services through Medicaid and
the Cross Region SCBHR and SEIL. Tenco hydroponic greenhouse is a funding and employment
source for individuals they serve. Tenco foundation support capital expenditures for Tenco
Industries, Inc (Tenco Industries in Ottumwa, Iowa. (n.d.).
In addition Tenco provides grants to the individuals it serves, these funds are delegated to
aid in independence, enhance their quality of life and personal growth. Grants are awarded
quarterly through the DreamWeavers program. Tenco depend on the kindness of businesses,
individuals and organizations. Tenco is appointed a 501 (c) agency, every donation to Tenco is
tax deductible.
Relationship to other Agencies
The Legacy Society acknowledges contributors who have included the Tenco Foundation.
Their estate proposals through permanent postponements giving such as retained life estates,
charitable remainder, and charitable gift annuities. The Covenant Society acknowledges
contributors who have included the Tenco Foundation in their estate proposals through revoked

postponements giving such as qualified retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and living
trusts. Society members are acknowledged in customary annual reports, annual awards banquets
and newsletter mailings (Tenco Industries in Ottumwa, Iowa. (n.d.).
Strengths, Trends and Challenges
Tenco empower and respect individuals with disabilities by thriving Tenco assist
individuals with disabilities to attain prosperity. Tenco make it possible for a powerful workforce
by assisting the staff to reach a healthy stability among family, recreation and employment.
Tenco is dedicated to improving the community by respecting businesses, enrich and enhance
every one. Tenco is dedicated to customer service on constructing lasting customer relationships
and business partnerships distinguished by exceptional service and trust.
Tenco is experiencing a challenging issue regarding the Medicaid program effective as of
April 1, 2016. The State of Iowa has turned over 4.2 billion dollars budget to out of state, for
profit companies to administer. At the same time there was no reduction of force as the State
level to offset the huge expense of bringing in hundreds of employees representing these for
profit individuals. The net outcome can only be a lack of funding for services for those that rely
on Medicaid dollars to allow them to survive. This represents the greatest injustice to our most
vulnerable population (Tenco Industries in Ottumwa, Iowa. (n.d.).
Interns Role
The role of the intern is to give me the hands-on experience of human service
administration in a supervised learning environment and to provide me with supervised
experience in a managerial position. I should ask for and attend to the specific expectations and

objectives outlined for me by the agency in general and Site Supervisors in particular. It is the
responsibility for me to ensure that the agency and Site Supervisor expectations are clearly
communicated and understood. I should adhere to all agency policies regarding dress, time of
arrival and departure, agency paperwork and procedures, mandatory meetings, rules of
privacy/confidentiality, office space usage, etc.
I should consider myself as a regular staff/employee of the agency for the duration of my
field placement, and arrange their work schedule in accordance with agency protocol and
requirements. I work under the supervision of my Site Supervisor, and that the agency and Site
Supervisor maintain the final responsibility for all work and tasks assigned to me the Practicum
student. My role also includes keeping track of my practicum hours and one-on-one supervision.
