Statewide assessment results show that


Delaware students are getting Smarter in ELA
In English Language Arts:
As more students participated in Smarter, statewide proficiency for all
grades increased in ELA from 52% to 55%
32,875 students across Grades 3-8 in Delaware scored proficient in
2016 compared to 30,706 students in 2015
Increase represents 2,169 more students demonstrating proficiency in
ELA this year 3.6% of the students tested this year

Last year Grade 3 scores were the 2nd highest in the nation
Delaware maintained that proficiency
Grades 4 to 8 each moved their proficiency up 2% to 5%

Grade 8 saw the biggest increase in ELA proficiency for 2016

Statewide assessment results show that


Delaware students are getting Smarter in math
Mathematics:
As more students participated in Smarter, statewide proficiency for all
grades increased in Math from 41% to 44%
26,440 students across Grades 3-8 in Delaware scored proficient in
2016 compared to 24,301 students in 2015
Increase represents 2,139 more students demonstrating proficiency in
Math this year 3.5% of the students tested this year
All grades saw increases in proficiency ranging from 2% to 4%
Grade 4 saw the biggest increase in math proficiency for 2016
Grades 3 and 4 continue their trend with a 10% higher proficiency rate
than other grades
