DecisionSpace AssetView

Running AssetView with NetMeeting

Launching NetMeeting while DecisionSpace AssetView is running can crash all currently
running AssetView instances. To run NetMeeting, and AssetView at the same time, you
should launch the conferencing application first. Once the conferencing application is
running, you can launch DecisionSpace and check on Enable conferencing in the 3D
View Properties dialog (View > View Properties) so that the 3D view is visible in the
conferencing application. When you are done with your conference, you need to unset
conferencing in DecisionSpace before you exit NetMeeting.
The steps to run DecisionSpace with NetMeeting are:
1. Start NetMeeting.
2. Start DecisionSpace.
3. Enable NetMeeting from DecisionSpace by selecting View > View Properties and
then checking on Enable Conferencing in the 3D View Properties dialog box.
Whenever you click in the Enable Conferencing checkbox on the 3D View Properties
dialog, the following message appears, warning you that NetMeeting must be started
first.

If you have already started NetMeeting, you can click Yes to proceed.
If you have not yet started NetMeeting, you should save your session, exit
DecisionSpace, and start NetMeeting before re-starting DecisionSpace. If you click
Yes and NetMeeting is not already running, DecisionSpace may hang or crash.
4. Share the entire Desktop or DecisionSpace only from NetMeeting (Tools > Sharing).
Note: if sharing DecisionSpace only, see defect 174336 in the second bullet at the
end of this section.

DecisionSpace AssetView

5. When finished, unset Enable Conferencing in DecisionSpace by selecting View >

View Properties and then checking off Enable Conferencing in the 3D View
Properties dialog box.
When running AssetView with NetMeeting, you should also be aware of the following
issues:

As noted above, AssetView may crash if you start NetMeeting while AssetView is
running. This is important to remember if you are running multiple sessions, as starting
NetMeeting may cause all currently running AssetView sessions to crash. For
example, if you have an AssetView session running and then start NetMeeting to
share a new (second) AssetView session, the existing AssetView session may crash.
(614338)

When using AssetView with NetMeeting, if only AssetView is shared (instead of the
entire desktop), resizing the 3D viewer causes the client-side viewer to hang. If this
happens, you need to re-start DecisionSpace and re-share it. (174336)

When using AssetView with NetMeeting, turning on the Workspace (View >
Workspace) causes the 3D view to go blank, and it is not restored by turning off the
Workspace. You must exit and re-start DecisionSpace. (613406)

Fixed Problems
The following problems were fixed in this release:

Clicking on File > Clear Session while both AssetView and PowerModel are running
no longer hangs the AssetView Data Selector.

MB3 > Modify now opens the AssetView Data Selector with the object that you clicked
on listed at the top of the table.

Toggling on the Workspace (View > Workspace) while Stereo is enabled no longer
disables stereo.

The problems with Use Data Extremes for Rescue Horizons and Sections when using
non-English locales has been fixed.

Data Tip Manager MD and TD values along horizontal well paths are shown correctly.

The Data Tip Manager shows well pick names.

You can now rotate the scene after applying the Enter Model Position option for a CAD
model.

Earth Model objects are now added to the Working Data Set when displayed.

Moving the mouse over the Pre-Defined Views box in the Display Type sub-tab of the
Earth Model > 3D grids tab no longer clears the display.

Well perforation displays now reads the perforation diameter in the OpenWorks
database when positioning the perforation symbol.

Applying a single color to a Rescue horizon no longer causes the horizon to disappear
in the 3D view.

The problem with SeisWorks Faults where all fault data was assumed to be of the
same domain as the first fault segment has been fixed so that faults now display
property even if the first segment in the fault is not in the selected domain.

When zoomed in on a seismic animator slice, box, or opacity cube display, resizing the
object using Ctrl+MB1 on the corner handles now resizes in the proper direction.

You can now cancel a pre-load of seismic data at any time during the loading progress.

A problem that caused residual memory leak after displaying and then removing a
seismic slice has been fixed.

A problem that caused instability at high magnifications when animating seismic

volumes using the mouse buttons has been fixed.

Known Problems
The following list describes behaviors and problems that the AssetView team has
identified as being bothersome to users. This is not a comprehensive list of the known
problems in the product. The numbers in parentheses at the end are the defect number.

General

Multiple transparent objects will not display properly in the 3D view. Therefore, when
displaying multiple objects, only one object should be set to non-zero transparency.
Also, because opacity cubes and well sections are semi-transparent by definition, no
other objects should be set to non-zero transparency if displayed with these objects.
(164191)

Graphics/Stereo

A reboot may be required after stereo has been enabled in the graphics driver in order
for the system to recognize the new stereo settings. Please refer to Appendix A:
Graphics Driver and Stereo Settings for detailed information on enabling stereo.
(520629)

If the textured memory required to display colormapped SeisWorks seismic or

horizons exceeds the capacity of the graphics card, they will appear solid black in the
viewer. This is most likely to happen on NVS graphics cards. The workaround is to
reduce or decimate the data to get colormapping.

Earth Model Data

Selecting multiple Earth Model projects in the Available Projects list and then clicking
the down arrow to move them all to the Current Projects list can result in a significant
amount of time to load the projects, depending on project size. (519442)

AssetView currently displays null cells in the lowest value color in the selected
colormap, which makes it appear as a real value. The workaround is to filter the data
so that only the cells with real values are included. (146916)

OpenWorks Fault Grids

Row and column values for fault grids may be inverted as compared to other
Landmark applications. (520137, 520450)

OpenWorks Sections

On Linux, an OpenWorks well section that intersects with a 3D grid or seismic volume
may appear black while the scene is being manipulated (rotated, repositioned or
zoomed) in the 3D view. It will return to the correct color when you release MB1. To
continue to see all the data while manipulating the scene, adjust the Dynamic
Resolution slider at the bottom of the 3D viewer to High. Alternatively, you can toggle
on the option Display opacity cubes during scene motion in the 3D Viewer Properties
dialog (View > View properties). (522234)

OpenWorks Wells

If running in Depth domain and Time annotation is not checked on, Seismic Datum
values are not used. Any values entered for seismic datum are used only when
running in Time domain or in Depth domain with Time checked on.

If the directional survey and position log for a well do not match, the uncertainty cones
will not follow the wellbore paths. (612869)

Because uncertainty displays use the default survey tool for the project selected in the
Session Manager when launching DecisionSpace, the size of the uncertainty displays
along wellbores can appear incorrectly if you display wells from a project different than
the project selected in the Session manager. Therefore, if displaying uncertainty, we
recommend displaying wells only from the project selected in the Session Manager.
(612873)

Rescue Data

The Color Editor does not recognize the selected colormap nor the data range for
Rescue horizons. (519025)

SeisWorks Seismic Data

Occasionally, when interactively animating the top or bottom face of an animator box
or opacity cube using the mouse cursor, the face will animate in the opposite direction
of the cursor motion (e.g., dragging downward animates the face upward and vice
versa).

Appendix A: Graphics Driver and Stereo Settings

This appendix contains the following sections:
Graphics Driver Settings
Enabling Stereo

Graphics Driver Settings

This section describes the recommended graphics driver settings for Windows and Linux.
Windows
In order to resolve a graphics problem when running with other Java applications on the
desktop, we recommend that users change an OpenGL setting in the nVidia driver. To
change this setting, follow these steps:
1. Click MB3 anywhere on the desktop.
2. Select Properties.
3. Select the Settings tab.
4. Select the Advanced button.
5. Select the Quadro xxx tab (where xxx is the name of your card).
6. In the pop-up menu that appears to the left, choose OpenGL settings.
7. Under Performance and compatibility options, UN-check Use unified back/depth
buffer (the option is ON by default; we are recommending to turn OFF this option)
Depending on the particular graphics card being used, the driver may not show this option
and/or may not show an "OpenGL settings" category (e.g., the Quadro4 NVS 200/400
card will not show these options in the driver). In this case, this driver setting change is
not applicable.
If you have a dual-head system and would like AssetView's Full Screen mode to display
across all monitors, you must change your display mode to Horizontal Span (if your
display mode is set to Dualview, AssetView's Full Screen mode will only fill one monitor).

To change your display mode to Horizontal Span, please follow these steps:
1. Click MB3 anywhere on the desktop.
2. Select Properties.
3. Select the Settings tab.
4. Select the Advanced button.
5. Select the Quadro xxx tab (where xxx is the name of your card).
6. In the pop-up menu that appears to the left, choose nView Display Mode.
7. In nView Modes, select Horizontal Span.
If you want to switch back to Dualview once Horizontal Span has been enabled, you
should exit DecisionSpace (if running), change to Dualview, and then reboot before
attempting to use AssetView 3D again. AssetView may not function properly on the
secondary head if Dualview is enabled while AssetView is running or if AssetView is relaunched prior to re-booting.

Note
On the Quadro 4 NVS 400 graphics card, performance is poor when AssetView spans more than
one display. Although it will run, the 3D graphics will not be accelerated. This happens when
using Full Screen mode accessible from the toolbar (View > Full Screen).

Linux
The Linux graphics driver is /etc/X11/XF86Config. To enable 3D acceleration, which is
necessary for AssetView, the Linux driver must load two modules in the Modules section.
At minimum, the Modules section should look as follows:
Section Module
Load glx
Load dri
EndSection
Additional modules may be loaded in this section, but the above modules are the
minimum required for 3D acceleration.

To allow any application on the system to use the 3D acceleration settings, you can also
add the following section and setting:
Section DRI
Mode 0666
EndSection

Enabling Stereo
Windows
For this release, all tested graphics cards are stereo-capable except the nVidia Quadro
NVS 200 and 400. The steps below are required to enable the correct stereo option in your
Windows graphics driver. However, we recommend that you perform the steps below only
if you are going to run the AssetView in stereo mode (View > View Stereo > Enable).
Activating the stereo option in your graphics driver as described below and then running
AssetView without stereo enabled (View > View Stereo > Enable) can lead to
performance problems. Therefore, if you do not intend to run with stereo enabled, do not
make these changes in your graphics driver.
Resolution and Refresh Rates for Stereo
When running in Stereo on a dual-head system, we recommend using resolutions no higher
than 2560 x 768 or 2304 x 864.
We also recommend using refresh rates between 100 Hz and 120 Hz when running in stereo
mode.

Note
Stereo functionality in DecisionSpace will only be exposed, i.e., View Stereo appears under the
View menu option and the stereo icons appear on the toolbar, if your system has a stereocapable graphics card and your graphics driver has the correct stereo option enabled as
described below. This is automatically detected when you launch the AssetView.

To enable stereo with the stereo-capable nVIDIA graphics cards:

1. Exit DecisionSpace.
2. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.
