Dear Student,
Welcome to the July Edition of the Law Bulletin.
The Union Government underwent a reshuffle along
with the induction of 19 new Ministers of State. The
Union Government approved 100% FDI in Aviation,
Defence and e-commerce sectors.
ISRO does India proud again by setting a record
launching 20 satellites in a single mission.
UK votes to Leave the European Union and
subsequently David Cameron resigns and Theresa May
is the new Prime Minister.
Wimbledon Title goes to Andy Murray (Men) and
Serena Williams (Women). The Champions Trophy
Hockey title was clinched by Australia in the Mens
category and Argentina in the Womens category.

Prema Khandu takes oath as the ninth Chief Minister
of Arunachal Pradesh
On 13 July 2016, the Supreme Court ordered
restoration of the Congress government in Arunachal
Pradesh, as it quashed all decisions of the Governor
that precipitated its fall in January, holding them
violative of the Constitution. The landmark
unanimous judgement by a five-judge bench set aside
among other things Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowas
message directing the preponing of the session and the
manner of holding the proceedings of sixth session of
the Assembly scheduled from January 14, 2016, to
December 16-18, 2015.
The constitution bench, headed by Justice J S Khehar,
ordered that status quo ante as prevailed on December
15, 2015 be restored in Arunachal Pradesh Assembly.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki was reinstated and was
scheduled to take the floor test in the Assembly.
However, hours before the floor test was scheduled to
take place, the Congress Legislature Party elected Pema
Khandu, son of late Chief Minister, Dorjee Khandu as
the leader of the party. Pema Khandu took oath as the
ninth Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Chowna
Mein was sworn is as the Deputy Chief Minister.

International Yoga Day celebrated on June 21


Every year 21 June is being observed as International
Day of Yoga across the globe to spread awareness
about practicing yoga. The theme for 2016 was
Connect the Youth. This years observance seeks to
highlight the important role healthy living plays in the
realization of the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) which were adopted by all 193 UN member
states in 2015. To mark the day, several events were
organised across the world to highlight the importance
of Yoga. In India, Union Government had organised
National Event of Mass Yoga Demonstration at the
Capitol Complex in Chandigarh. In this event Prime
Minister Narendra Modi himself had performed yoga.
The Union Ministry of AYUSH has released a Yog Geet
on this occasion.

IAF creates history by inducting 3 women fighter


pilots for the first time
The Indian Air Force (IAF) created history by
inducting 3 women fighter pilots for first time.
These three women fighter pilots are Bhawana
Kanth, Avani Chatuvedi and Mohana Singh. They
were officially commissioned as fighter pilots in
the IAF in the presence of Union Defence Minister
Manohar Parrikar at a ceremony held at Air Force
Academy, Dundigal, Hyderabad. In October 2015,
the Union Government had decided to open the
fighter stream for women on an experimental
basis for five years. These three women fighter
pilots were inducted in IAF after all of them
cleared the first stage of training in the three
stages process. Now they have about 150 hours of
flying. Now in the second stage, they will begin
advanced training on advanced jet trainer Hawks
at Bidar in Karnataka. It will add 145 hours of
flying before they actually get into the cockpit of a
supersonic fighter in the third stage.
ISRO sets record by successfully launching 20
satellites in single mission
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
successfully launched a record 20 satellites in a
single mission from Satish Dhawan Space Centre
in Sriharikota. These satellites were launched
using Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C-34.
With this successful launch, ISRO surpassed its
previous record of placing 10 satellites into orbit
in a single mission in 2008. The primary satellite in
this mission was Indias latest earth observation
satellite Cartosat-2. Other 19 satellites were from
countries US (13), Canada (2), Germany (1) and
Indonesia (1). It also had two satellites from
Chennais Sathyabama University and College of
Engineering, Pune (COEP).

HAL unveils indigenous basic trainer aircraft HTT40


Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has unveiled
indigenous Basic Trainer Aircraft (BTA) HTT-40 in
Bengaluru. The aircraft made its maiden flight
recently from the HAL Airport in Bengaluru It was
flown by Group Captain C Subramaniam and
Group Captain Venugopal for about 10 to 15
minutes. HTT-40 (Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40) is a
two-seater aircraft designed and developed
indigenously by HAL.

Union Govt. approves 100% FDI in Aviation,
Defence and e-commerce sectors
The Union Government has eased foreign direct
investment (FDI) norms for nine sectors to give
impetus to job creation and ease of doing business in
the country. With these changes, India becomes
most open economy in the world for FDI. Some of
these sectors are
Food products
Defence
Pharmaceutical Sector
Aviation
Animal Husbandry
Single Brand Retail Trading
FDI continues to be prohibited in atomic energy,
lottery, gambling, real estate and Real Estate
Investments Trusts (REIT) and railways operations.
Kerala Government imposes 14.5 percent Fat tax on
junk food
Kerala Government has proposed a Fat Tax on fast
food items like burgers, pizzas, donuts and pasta etc.
served in branded restaurants in a bid to discourage
the junk food culture. The first-of its-kind move in
the country was announced in the maiden budget of
the CPI(M)-led LDF Government in Kerala presented
by Finance Minister Dr. T.M. Thomas Issac. Fat tax on
junk food has been successfully imposed in European
countries such as Denmark and Hungary. Kerala is
not the first state to impose so-called Fat tax. In
January 2016, Bihar government decided to impose
a 13.5% value-added tax (VAT) on items such as
salted peanuts, samosas, sweets and a few branded
snacks.

Brexit Referendum in the UK


People of United Kingdom (UK) in a historic Brexit
referendum have voted in favour of leaving European
Union (EU). In the Brexit referendum, the Leave side
won decisively by securing 51.9% of the total votes
overturning Remain side which secured 48.1% votes.
This is the second referendum on UKs relationship with
the EU. In 1975, in a referendum on whether the UK
should stay or leave the EU, the country voted for
staying with 67.2% votes.. The vote to leave the EU
now has triggered a two-year withdrawal process
which will determine the future of UKs relationship
with the EU. At the end of withdrawal process, UK exits
the single market, then EU countries will start imposing
tariffs on British products.
The UK Prime Minister David Cameron, the architect of
the referendum and a passionate supporter of UK
within the EU, announced stepping down as Prime
Minister and the Conservative party leader Theresa
May (59) became Prime Minister of United Kingdom
With this, she became UKs second-ever female Prime
Minister after Margaret Thatcher (in office from 19791990). Prior to entering front-line politics, Theresa May
has worked with the Bank of England from 1977 to
1983. She had served as a councillor for the London
Borough of Merton from 1986 to 1994. She is Member
of Parliament for Maidenhead since 1997. She had
served as home secretary of UK from May 2010 to July
2016. She was the longest-serving home secretary of
UK in last 50 years.

Suicide Attack takes Bangladesh by Surprise

International

On July 1, a terror attack on a caf in Dhakas


diplomatic zone took the lives of 20 mostly foreign
patrons including an Indian girl, Tarishi Jain, two
policemen and one member of staff. The magnitude of
the violence shocked and overwhelmed Bangladesh.
The attack is believed to have been conducted by five
young men, out of which three of them came from
affluent Dhaka families and were students of private
schools and universities. They seek to establish a sharia
state that would be part of a global Islamic caliphate.
They followed the call to fight against crusaders
oppressing Muslims, especially in places like Palestine
and the Middle East.

Lionel Messi announces retirement from


Argentinian Football team
Barcelona FC star Lionel Messi (29) has announced
retirement from Argentinean Football team.
However, he will continue to play his club football
for FC Barcelona. He made this announcement after
Argentina was defeated by Chile in the 2016 Copa
America final in the penalty shootout by 4-2 score.
He had missed the penalty in the final match.
Incidentally, Lionel Messi and his father were
sentenced to 21 months in jail by a Spanish court
after they were found guilty of defrauding the
Spanish state of 4.1 million euros ($4.6 million).

Spotlight: National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS)


The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, abbreviated
to WBNUJS or NUJS is an autonomous law university offering courses at
the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It is situated in Salt Lake
City of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. NUJS is considered one of the best
amongst the elite national law schools in India built on the five-year law
degree model proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India.
The University offers a five year integrated B.A./BSc. LLB (Hons.) degree
programme at the undergraduate level and a Master of Laws (LLM)
programme at the postgraduate level. Admission to the former
programme is through the Common Law Admission Test(CLAT).NUJS
also offers MPhil and PhD degrees. It was established in 1999.
The popular press has described NUJS as "one of the top three NLUs, "one of the most prestigious institutions
for legal education in the country", and a University whose students' moot court achievements "put Kolkata
on the world map in less than three years. The five-year undergraduate course is divided into ten semesters
and enrols 125 students every year. The students represent almost all the States of India and a few join from
