    Statement From Senate Democratic Leader Andrea StewartCousins


    I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Hillary Clinton as she officially becomes the first woman
    ever nominated as a Presidential candidate for a major political party. As our party unites behind
    Hillary Clinton, we are one step closer to breaking yet another barrier and having the first ever
    female President of the United States. I am filled with pride that the Democratic Party has taken
    a leadership role in breaking down barriers, and that we now have the first female Presidential
    candidate following the first African-American President, Barack Obama. While the Republican
    Party seeks to divide our nation and sow fear and discord, the Democrats have proven yet again
    that we are stronger together and that our party is a force for unity and progressive action.
