Objectives
1. Identify igneous and sedimentary rocks together and their kinds.
2. Express the importance of the presence of igneous and sedimentary rocks.
3. Differentiate igneous rocks from sedimentary rocks.
Subject Matter

2. Lesson Proper
1.
Motivation
The teacher will show a video of rocks specifically igneous and
sedimentary rocks. After, the teacher will ask the pupils to take note of
the different characteristics of the rocks to be shown in the video. The
video to be shown by will be a two-part video: (1) for igneous and (2) for
sedimentary rocks. After the video, the teacher will ask the pupils
questions about the video shown.
1. What are the characteristics of the first rock shown in the video?
Second rock?
2. How is the first rock formed? Second rock?
2.
Presentation
The teacher will ask the pupils if they have an idea how these rocks are
called. The characteristics given by the pupils will be collected and used
by the teacher to help the pupil understand the difference between
igneous and sedimentary rocks. The teacher will concretize the concept
of igneous and sedimentary rocks through videos of each type. The
teacher will use a graphic organizer to present igneous rocks together
with its types so as the sedimentary rocks and its types.

3.
Discussion
Before the discussion, the teacher will give each pupils a map of the
rocks that they will follow as the teacher thoroughly discusses the topic.
The discussion will be about the first two types of rocks (sedimentary
and igneous) together with its kinds. In the discussion, the teacher will
use pictures to show the pupils how each rock looks like. As the
discussion goes on, the pupils will track their progress in the map until
they reach the big letter X which connotes the end of the adventure.
The teacher will ask questions about each type and let the pupils
differentiate the two major types of rock. After, the teacher will try to
relate the lesson to real life by asking the pupils how important these
rocks are to their life.
4.
Generalization
The teacher will ask the pupils the difference of the two major types of

rocks and how they are formed. After, the teacher will ask them what are
the examples of each. Lastly, the teacher will ask the pupils how
important these rocks are to their life.
5.
Application
GROUP ACTIVITY
The pupils will be divided into five different groups. Each group will be
given a different type of activity. The materials for the activity will be
given to them by the teacher. After they are done with their activty, they
are going to present their work in front of the class. The teacher will
grade the pupils on their work.
Group 1
The pupils will be given paper tiles to be used for their Group Activity.

Directions: Create a graphic organizer of igneous rocks.

Group 2
The pupils will be given paper tiles to be used for their Group Activity.
Directions: Create a graphic organizer of sedimentary rocks.

Group 3
The pupils will be given the chracteristics of igneous and sedimentary
rocks.
Directions: Using the table below put the chracteristics of igneous and
sedimentary rocks to its proper places.
IGNEOUS ROCKS

SEDIMENTARY ROCKS

Group 4
Directions: Differentiate igneous rocks from sedimentary rocks by using
a table.

Group 5
The pupils will be given set of pictures to be used for their activity.
Directions: Group the pictures of the rocks according to its type.

Evaluation
Directions: Identify the rock described by the statement below. Put your answer on the
space before each number.
1. These rocks are from very hot melted magma below the earths crust.
2. These rocks are formed when igneous rocks undergo erosion and
deposited in riverbeds or seabeds.
3. Igneous rocks that are formed deeply in the earths crust.
4. Igneous rocks that cool on the Earths surface.
5. This is a sedimentary rock formed by a mass of sand pressed tightly
together.
6. This is a sedimentary rock formed by the mixture of round pebbles and
stones.
7. This is a sedimentary rock made of shells and skeletons of small sea
animals that lived in the sea.
8. This sedimentary rock is simlar to limestone but is composed of
magnesium.
9. This is a type of sedimentary rock made of fine silt and mud.
10. These rocks are formed from accumulated products of erosion.
Give the difference of igneous rocks from sedimentary rocks.
Assignment
Directions: Research different types of igneous and sedimentary rocks and paste it on a
bond paper.
