improving quality of life and job satisfaction


The IHCA Quality Program Awards recognize members for successful programs in quality care, life and
community enhancement, quality teamwork and employee development. Congratulations to the 2015
recipients! The 2016 recipients will be recognized at the Convention Awards Luncheon and Program.
Quality Care Program

Community Enrichment

The Lymphedema Treatment Program was implemented


due to an increase in physician referrals for lower
extremity edema, wounds and pain. Since the program
began, residents have seen decreases in edema,
improved wound healing, increased circulation and pain
reduction.

The Generations Blending Together day camp hosts 80


children free of charge 2 to 3 hours a day for a week. The
program brings generations together by connecting the
knowledge and imaginations of young and old through
activities, projects and educational speakers.

Team Manager Orientation


Summit Pointe Senior Living, Marion

Within their first month, new employees at Summit


Pointe have a day devoted to Team Manager Orientation,
where each department manager presents information
and gets to know the new employees. Employees feel
more confident and knowledgeable and create good
working relationships with each department head.

Employee Retention Program

Staff Appreciation Dinner


Healthcare of Iowa, Inc., Cedar Rapids

The Staff Appreciation Dinner, held every two years,


honors employees with 5+ years of service at HCIs 19
nursing facilities and 11 assisted livings. The evening
includes dinner, a guest speaker, employee recognition,
prizes and a video tribute featuring every facility. The
most recent event recognized 372 employee56 with
25 or more years of experience.

Quality Team Program

Welcome Committee
Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha

The Welcome Committee brings a sense of comfort and


reassurance to ease the transition for new residents.
Three resident committee members visit each new
resident and bring a welcome bag, introduce themselves
and share their room numbers so residents can contact
them with any questions.

Harvey See
Buchanan County Health Center, Lexington Estate,
Independence

Harvey See spends over 25 hours a week volunteering at


Lexington Estate. After caring for his wife during her stay
in a nursing facility, Harvey saw how much visits mean
to residents. He now finds a way to touch the lives of
Lexington Estate residents, especially those with physical
and cognitive challenges or who have few visitors.

Life Enrichment Activity

Skype Pals
RidgeView Assisted Living, Cedar Rapids

The Skype Pals program introduces residents to todays


technology. Using iPads, small groups of residents use
Facebook, websites and internet searches to learn more
about other assisted living communities. Residents
connected with other facilities via Skype to share and
learn more about each others settings and surroundings.

Heads, Hands, Heart Memory Training


Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center, Sibley

Head, Hands, Heart Memory Training Program identifies


memory care residents cognitive levels and provides
meaningful, purpose-driven activities designed to
maintain or improve their cognition. Activity boxes have
been created for each level so staff and family members
can access appropriate activities for each individual that
provide a sense of accomplishment.
