An interesting past time of Lord

Narasimha (Karanja Narasimha) took

place in one of the temples in Ahobilam

when Shri Ram, Sita, Laxman, and the

Vanaras returned to Ayodhya after 14 long

years of exile in the forest. After a few days

Lord Ram instructed the Vanarsena to

return to their homes so all the monkeys

left for their respective residences.

Hanuman also left and proceeded towards

Ahobilam. He came across a tree called

“Karanja” and sat under it to meditate. Narasimha told Hanuman that he was

The bloody, gory body of the fearful demon, Hiranyakashipu, son of Kasyapa, lay strewn

on the pristine marble floor. Lord Narasimaha, a half man half lion incarnation of Lord

Vishnu, placed him on his lap, sitting on the demon king’s throne and shook the three

worlds with a reverberating roar. The greatest of the demon’s, entrails lay ripped out of

his body as his life-less figure lay like a rag-doll on Lord Narasimha’s lap. The Lord’s

furious face was etched with a scowl as his mane wildly flew in all directions, scattering

the clouds and bringing terror to the hearts

of all .

The floor lay plastered with blood as the

demigods hastily descended and repeat-

edly tried to appease the Lord with poetic

ballads composed about his glories, but

none could pacify the King of the lions.

Even Laxmi, the wife of the Lord was fright-

ened by her Lord’s ferocious form, what to

speak of the great gods. Slowly a small

innocent boy, walked up to Lord Narasimha, husband of the Goddess of Fortune. The

boy, Prahalad, looked up to the Lord with loving, adoring eyes and started to praise him

in pure devotion. By hearing his devotee’s praises the Lord was appeased and affection-

ately placed Prahlad on his lap. Exotic flowers showered from the heavens as everyone

cheered in pure happiness. The ground was soon layered with clusters of different

flowers and the air was submerged with an assembly of aromas.

When The demon king Hiranyakashipu saw the Lord, his heart was struck with fear, for him Lord

Narasimhadeva was death personified. But for Prahlad ,the Lord was a loving, gentle Father.

Kamsa also saw Krishna as death personified, while the gopis and cowherd boys loved him and

could not live without him. Krishna is equal to all , but depending on our consciousness we see

him differently. Devotees relate to Krishna in diverse ways. The cowherd friends of Sri Krishna
––
saw him as their best friend, while the gopis saw the lord as their paramour. Krishna, being the

Supreme Lord reciprocates with each devotee’s unique devotional mood. Krishna’s father,

Nanda Baba, asked Krishna to get his

sandals, and the Supreme Lord of the

Universe, also knows as Jagannatha,

picked up the sandals and carried them

to Nanda just like a dutiful son.

We can see by these pastimes how

Krishna is the Supreme Reciprocator.

When Krishna married 16,108 wives in

Dwaraka, He reciprocated with their love

so that each of them thought Krishna

was spending time with them alone.

When Prahalad, the dear devotee of the

Lord, was going to be killed by his wicked

father, Lord Narasimha appeared out of

the pillar and destroyed the demon King

dispelling the darkness with his claws. Even today Lord Narasimha is prayed to for protection

from darkness. May the lord dispel all obstacles on the path of devotion.
