Ossian Senior Hospice Employee Receives Honor

OSSIAN, IowaKelli Hanken, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Ossian Senior
Hospice, has been named as an Iowa Health Care Association (IHCA) Foundation
scholarship recipient. Julie Adair, IHCA Vice President, Home Care and Workforce,
presented Hanken with the Foundations $1,000 John R. Grubb Scholarship for her
outstanding commitment to providing long term services and supports to the
residents she serves.
Hanken began her journey at Ossian Senior Hospice in January 2016 when she
decided to follow her true passionnursing. She was hired as a certified nurses
aide (CNA) and has since transitioned to an LPN.
I feel fulfilled and complete in a way I never have, said Hanken in her nomination
essay. While I know that I am making an impact on the lives of my residents, they
are making a wonderfully positive impact on me as well.
Eileen Courtney, Ossian Senior Hospice Administrator, states that Hanken is a kind,
dependable, versatile and enthusiastic employee. Kelli displays kindness and
empathy toward our elderly residents and follows my direction thoroughly, said
Courtney. She excels as an employee in long term care and also in her scholastic
career.
Upon completing her associates degree in nursing (ADN) at Northeast Iowa
Community College and becoming a registered nurse (RN), Hanken plans to
continue her employment in long term care or home health. Eventually, she would
like to pursue a degree in nursing education.
The Iowa Health Care Association Foundation is supported by the 819 member
organizations of the Iowa Health Care Association, which includes Iowa nursing
facilities, assisted living communities, residential care facilities, home health
agencies and long term services and supports associated businesses.
