DERIVATION OF THE SAG ALLOWANCE FORMULA

FOR CALCULATING THE DISPLACEMENT OF THE VESSEL, WE NEED TO CHECK THE DRAFTS FORWARD, AFT & AMIDSHIPS
WE THEN CALCULATE THE MEAN OF MEANS OR THE MEAN BETWEEN MIDSHIP DRAFT & MEAN DRAFT (W/C IS THE MEAN BET.
FORWARD & AFT DRAFTS)
AFTERWARDS, WE GET THE AVERAGE BET. MEAN OF MEANS & MIDSHIP DRAFT & THE RESULT WILL BE THE DOUBLE MEAN OF MEANS
WHICH IS ALSO KNOWN AS QUARTER MEAN & SOMETIMES TERMED MEAN OF MEANS. THESE PROCEDURES TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE
SAG OR HOG OF THE VESSEL'S HULL. THIS DOUBLE MEAN OF MEANS IS THEN USED TO EXTRACT THE CORRESPONDING DISPLACMENT FROM
THE HYDROSTATIC TABLE, IF THE VESSEL HAS A TRIM AND/OR FLOATING IN WATER W/ A DENSITY OTHER THAN 1.025 FURTHER CORRECTIONS
WILL BE APPLIED.

IN THIS CASE, AA REPRESENTS MIDSHIP DRAFT, MEAN DRAFT, MEAN OF MEANS & DOUBLE MEAN OF MEANS. THEY ALL COINCIDE WITH EACH OTHER & THERE
IS NO REDUCTION IN VESSEL'S DISPLACEMENT, DEADWEIGHT & CARGO INTAKE.

VESSEL IF THERE IS NO HULL DEFLECTION) W/C IS USED IN ENTERING THE HYDROSTATCI TABLE TO GET THE CORRESPONDING
DISPLACEMENT OF THE VESSEL W/C IS CORRECTED FOR SAG.

AS SHOWN ABOVE, WITH A SAG OF 4 CM THE DOUBLE MEAN OF MEANS IS 1 CM BELOW THE MIDSHIP DRAFT OR THE DRAFT OF THE VESSEL
WHEN THERE IS NO HULL DEFLECTION. TO CONVERT THIS 1 CM TO WEIGHT WE JUST MULTIPLY THE TPC OF THIS VESSEL AT THIS DRAFT. THEREFORE,
FOR EVERY 4 CM OF SAG THE DISPLACEMENT OR DEADWEIGHT OR CARGO INTAKE IS REDUCED BY AN AMOUNT EQUAL TO THE TPC. HENCE,
THE FOLLOWING FORMULA CAN BE USED:
