Correct grammar mistakes made in song lyrics given

Materials:
Anticipatory set:
Class will begin with students turning in homework from the previous class into the appropriate
grade bin. Throughout the school year, students have been learning grade appropriate grammar
concepts, so this activity will be conducted near the beginning of the third nine weeks. In doing
this, students will have a review of grammar concepts before taking the Florida Standards
Assessment. Students will settle into their seats and class will immediately begin with a quiz
after instruction from the teacher.
Teaching Strategy/Procedure/Activity:
Time
8 minutes
7 minutes
Student is doing
Completing quiz and turning
in to designated area. If a
student finishes early, they
may take out the piece(s) of
text being read in class and
read quietly.
Volunteering to give answers
from quiz and explaining why
the answer is correct when
called on, active and
respectively listening, asking
any questions for clarification
if needed
Summary/Closure:
Class will then move into the activity for the rest of the day.
Teacher is doing
Walking around, monitoring
the class room in case a
student needs assistance.
Assessment:
Formal assessment: Students will turn in the quiz, which will be graded for a total of 10
points possible (2 points per question). Students can receive partial credit for answers due
to the variance of answers.
Informal assessment: Understanding will be monitored while conducting a review of the
quiz. The teacher should listen for correct answers and for students reasoning as to why
they chose a particular answer to see if they understand grammar concepts.
Homework/follow-up assignment:
None
Accommodations/adaptations:
Herbert Millner (M)- ADHD: Herbet is permitted to pace in the back of the classroom during the
review and when the teacher is giving directions. If he wants to stand and take his quiz, he may
do so, but he must do it at or next to the teachers desk. He is also welcome to go get a drink of
water in the hallway if he is feeling restless. Extra time on the quiz will be permitted if needed.
Paten Vander (F)- Speech impairment: Paten will have preferential seating near the front of the
classroom. Extra time on the quiz and the assignment will be permitted if needed.
Lya Gross (F)- Mild dyslexia: Steps for activity will be given clearly and in single steps . Lyas
quiz will be provided in larger print. Extra time on the quiz will be permitted if needed.
Oliver Fore (M)- Mild autism:. If he feels he is getting over stimulated, he may step outside into
the hallway. Oliver will be seated near the front, so that he does not get over stimulated by
students sitting in front of him. Extra time on the quiz will be permitted if needed.
English Language Learners: Since these students have been in the United States school system
for several years, have had intensive English instruction in elementary school, and are now in
high school, they should now need any accommodations. However, the quiz can be provided in
their native language or done orally. Extra time on the quiz and the assignment will be permitted
if needed.
Plan B:
If students finish too quickly, they are to continue reading the class text. If students arent
understanding the concepts, the teacher should evaluate which concepts students struggle with
most (according to the quiz) and create separate mini lessons for those concepts for future class
sessions.
