Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love
the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve both God and money.
Matthew 6:25-27
Therefore, I tell you do not worry about your life, what you
will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not
life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds
of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your
heavenly father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than
they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
Matthew 6:31-32
So do not worry, saying, What shall we eat or What shall we drink?
or What shall we wear? For the pagans run after those things, and
your heavenly father knows that you need them.
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all
these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about
itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
I remember reading these verses before I was baptized and I took them verse by
verse, just how I have typed them above. Then I realized one thing: they are
connected, just as every story in the Bible is.
These verses are about being adults and I am one. Soon, I will be worrying about
money, about the food I will eat and the clothes I will wear. And I know for sure that
my parents have been worrying all about these for most of their life already. But the
Jesus said not to worry about these things because the Heavenly Father knows that
we need them. Yet there is one important verse that shows what should be done
first. Matthew 6:33 says seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these
things will be given to you as well.
God must be placed at the center of our life, in anything that we are doing even in
work. That is why it will be very important who I will work with in the future. God will
provide, Im sure. Psalms 89:8 says that the Lord is mighty and his faithfulness
surrounds Him.
