Course Description:
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Sports Medicine is designed to provide a hands on, internship
type experience for students who have taken and passed sports medicine and are interested in the field of
sports medicine or other related medical fields. Within this one year course, students will receive hands
on experience with the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of EHS athletes and their injuries.
Students will be evaluating and taping athletes, performing first aid, and covering sporting practices and
games as student athletic trainers.
Instructional Format:
Class instruction will be more of an internship approach. Students will take knowledge learned from sports
medicine and apply it within advanced sports medicine. Students will further learn with hands on
experience and situations that arise throughout the year.
Attendance Policy:
Students are expected to show up on time daily. A big portion of the students grade will be based on their
attendance. Even though this is a 7th period class which goes from 2:30-3:30pm, students will be required
to stay later on certain days for sporting practices, games, or events. 10 or more absences could result in
disciplinary action or removal from the class.
*Students will be required to log hours for each sporting season worked.
Tardy Policy:
Students are expected to be on time to class which will meet in the athletic training room during 7th
period. Those who are tardy will lose participation points. Excessive tardiness will result in disciplinary
action.
Participation:
Since this is a hands on, internship style course, students will earn points based on their participation in
the class. This includes showing up on time, showing up daily, and participating in the daily routines of the
athletic training room (organizing, taping athletes, injury reports, cleaning the athletic training room, and
showing up to sporting practices and events that they are scheduled for, etc).
Class Rules:
1. Follow directions the first time they are given
2. Use appropriate language and behavior while representing advanced sports medicine
3. Respect school property
4. No wasting or inappropriately using supplies
5. Clean up after yourself each day

6. Dressing appropriately
7. Portraying yourself in a professional manner
Grading System:
students grades will be based on the following
1. attendance and participation
2. hours (required 60-100 hours per season based on the sport and season)
3. proficiencies packet
4. coaches survey
All letter grades are based on the following percents:
A=90-100% B=80-89% C=70-79% D=60-69% F=59% or below
Since this is an advanced course which will require a significant amount of the students time, to make
sure that the students remain on track for school and academics the following will be in place for the
expressed intent that the student may have more time to focus on academics and grades.
Students are required to turn in to myself a grade check sheet the first of every month.
If the student has less than a 2.0 or has any Fs they will be put on suspension from advanced
sports medicine for that month. This means that they will not be allowed to participate in sporting
practices, events or any field trips or activities planned for that month with advanced sports medicine.
If the student can bring a new grade check sheet before the end of the month with above a 2.0
and no Fs then they will immediately be taken off suspension.
If the student is put on suspension for two consecutive months they will be in danger of
disciplinary action or removal from the course all together.
There will be a 3 strikes rule in place within this course. This means showing up late, not showing
up at all, being disrespectful, using inappropriate language, wasting supplies, disobeying dress code, etc
could result in a strike and after 3 strikes they will be in danger of disciplinary action and/or removal from
the class.
Students need to dress APPROPRIATELY while representing advanced sports medicine! practice
