Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act-MGNREGA by the
Central Government

23. The Government of Maharashtra has banned the beef in the state. As per the new
rule, if a person is found to be selling beef or in possession of it, he can be jailed for
five years and fined up to Rs 10,000
24. The government has appointed former Panchajanya editor Baldev Sharma as the
new chairman of the National Book Trust on 2nd March
25. PDP (People's Democratic Party) party leader Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was sworn
in as the new Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on 1st March. He is leading a
historic alliance with the BJP, which has become part of a government in the state
for the first time

28. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has given Executive Director of Bank of
Baroda Ranjan Dhawan additional charge of the Managing Director & CEO of Bank of
Baroda for a period of three months
29. Online cab booking company Ola has acquired its competitor TaxiForSure for USD
200 million in a cash and equity deal. Post this deal, both the companies will
continue to operate as separate companies
30. Microsoft Founder Bill Gates has been ranked as the richest man in the world for the
second consecutive year by business magazine Forbes in its annual ranking of global
billionaires. Bill Gates (worth of USD 79.2 billion) secured No1 rank followed by
Carlos Slim (worth of USD 77 billion), Warren Buffett (worth of USD 72.7 billion)
31. Global tech company Hewlett-Packard has announced to acquire wi-fi network
systems maker Aruba for USD 3 billion. This acquisition will help HP to compete in
the university and office campus networking market
32. Indian-American physician Rahul Jindal was selected for the prestigious FulbrightNehru Distinguished Chair
33. Walmart India has appointed Ashwin Mittal as the new Chief Financial Officer and
Javier Rojo as head of Real Estate and Business Development.

per the Mercer's Quality of Living Report 2015. Hyderabad has been ranked at 138

49. Indian American Author Akhil Sharma has been presented with the Folio Prize 2015
for his novel Family Life' by Jean-Marc Rathe of the Folio Society at the awards
ceremony held in London
50. Famous writer and columnist Zachariah has been selected for CV Kunhuraman
Literary Prize 2015. The prize comprises a cash component of Rs 10,001 and a

51. Famous Hindi poet Gopaldas Neeraj has been awarded with first National Kavi

52. BJP Leader Poonam Mahajan was unanimously elected as the President of
Basketball Federation. With this, she became the first woman President of the
Basketball Federation ever since it was established in 1950.
53. Saina Nehwal won her maiden India Open Super Series Women's singles title after
defeating former world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand by 21-16 21-14 in
the final match held in New Delhi.
54. The other Indian shuttler K. Srikanth defeated Viktor Axelsen of Denmark by 18-21,
21-13, 21-12 to win the India Open Super Series Badminton Men's Singles title.
55. Australia defeated New Zealand by 7 wickets in the final match of the ICC Cricket
World cup to list the Cricket World Cup for the record fifth time in Melbourne.
56. James Faulkner was adjudged man of the match while Mitchell Starc won the man of
the series award after finishing the tournament with 22 wickets.

57. Australia captain Michael Clarke retired from ODIs after this win and joining the list
of Australia's World Cup winning captains which include Allan Border, Ricky

England badminton championships in Birmingham

79. Indian author Amitav Ghosh has been shortlisted among 10 finalists for this year's
Man Booker International Prize for his contribution to the English language writing

80. Renowned ecologist Madhav Gadgil has been selected for the 2015 Tyler Prize for
Environmental Achievement. He will share the USD 200,000 worth cash prize with
famous American marine ecologist Dr. Jane Lubchenco
81. World Tuberculosis Day is observed today (24th March) across the world to create
awareness on the global epidemic and on efforts to eliminate the disease
