https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/7ee14ac6-2cee-49d1-8d79-8f1976298fe3
Day 1 Assessments:
Formative:
Discussions and observations with descriptive feedback given to the students. This feedback will
be documented
Summative:
Flip Book about the Timucua Indians. Information to put in the flipbook will come from the
research and activities done at each of the 4 stations.
Day 2 Assessments:
Formative: Discussion and Observation Teacher will circulate throughout the classroom to observe students within their cooperative
groups. Teacher will also listen to the various discussions about their chosen historical person to
check for prior and current understanding and to provide feedback, as needed. In addition,
teacher will observe how students are communicating and work together within their assigned
groups. These informal observations are critical as it provides a snapshot on those students who
may need differentiated instructions and who may have difficulties working with others
(anecdotal records will be kept on these students).
Summative: Biography Project and Presentation
A biography project will be presented. The components to this project will include a BioCube,
bottle person, and a timeline. Upon completion and presentation of this project, students will
demonstrate mastery of how primary and secondary resources are used to identify significant
historical individuals from St. Augustine. In addition, students will demonstrate mastery in
writing informative text to convey ideas and information clearly. A rubric (see below) will be
used to assess their biography project and presentation.
Day 3 Assessments:
Formative:
Throughout the lesson there will be a constant open discussion that will focus on activating and
assessing the students prior and current knowledge. These discussions will be whole group,
small group, and one-on-one. They will also help to assess what the students need further support
and instruction for. Other than discussions with the teacher, there will be constant observation of
the small groups conversations to assess if they are staying on the correct path. These are both
informal assessments.
Summative:

A poster of Castillo de San Marcos including the following information will be assessed:
building materials, architectural structure, age, timeline of ownership, and strategic location. By
completing this poster successfully, students will demonstrate their growth and knowledge of the
subject matter and their mastery of the social studies and language arts standards listed above. It
will be graded formally using the rubric provided below.
Day 4 Assessments:
Formative:
Students will participate in a short class discussion following the readers theatre to check
comprehension. Students will create a timeline using www.myhistro.com, identifying 4 historic
battles that took place. Each battle will require a small paragraph summary. Students will be
given a rubric for their timeline.
Summative:
Students will compete against each other using the pretest Kahoot
(https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/7ee14ac6-2cee-49d1-8d79-8f1976298fe3) from the beginning of the
unit. Students will also finish the KWL chart they started at beginning of the unit
Day 5 Assessments:
Formative:
The 3-2-1 graphic organizer will demonstrate the students current knowledge and what they still
wish to learn on the field trip. During the bus ride to St. Augustine, after watching a video,
students will participate in a trivia game in order to demonstrate their learning throughout the
week. This will help the students activate prior knowledge in a fun way, but will also inform the
teacher of how much the students have learned and hopefully demonstrate if they are prepared
for the scavenger hunt.
Summative:
The scavenger hunt clue cards and pictures will document the students overall learning for the
unit. Using the knowledge they have acquired about St. Augustine, students should be able to
work together to figure out the clues and find the locations and answers to each question.
Post-unit Assessment:
Summative:
Students will write a timed (120 minutes) informative essay about the overall unit including the
St. Augustine field trip. Students are allowed to choose their own specific writing prompts.
