KaylabreaksdownthespiritplansforeachdayofStateConvention.Thefirst
daysthemewillbeMassachusettsMonsterMash,whichcouldpossiblyincludeconceptssuch
assnowandwitches.However,thiscouldalsoincludemythologicalcreaturessuchascyclopes,
gorgons,andtheMinotaur.Kaylasaysthatshewilltypeouttheseplansindetailandsharethem
withtheboard.SundaysthemewillbeClassicalBays/
Baes
.Therewillbesomecleverpun
signstogoalongwiththistheme,mostlyinvolvingtheOlympians.Additionally,participants
couldholdupposterscontainingimagesofclassicalbays.Kaylaaddressesthesubjectof

Williamcommencesthecandidatespeeches.Hestartsoffbyoutliningthebasic
procedure.Eachcandidatewillbeallocatedexactlytwominutesfortheirspeech(theywillbe
warnediftheyarequicklyapproachingthetimelimit),followedbytwoquestionsfromthe
audience.Atotalofaroundfiveminuteswillbespentoneachcandidatetwominutesfortheir

speech,andthreeminutesforthetwoquestions.Therewillbeadiscussionafterwards,andthen
voting.Thecandidatesaretoproceedingavelorder.

ThefirstcandidatetopresentisAnnaAldins,whowishestorunforSecondVice
President.Shehandsflyersaroundthemaintabletotheotherboardmembers.Annaexplainsher
familiaritywithcommunityservice.Theseaccomplishmentsincludefouryearsofvolunteer
workatalocalmuseumandvariousothershorttermserviceprojects.ShehasattendedtwoState
andtwoNationalConventions,andduringthespiriteventsofthelatter,shehastriedherbestto
cheerwithasmuchenergyandpassionaspossible.Shehopestosetahigherstandardforspirit
atStateConventionandplanstoprovidechapterswiththecorrectinformationtofacilitatethese
goals.Additionally,sheplansonsettingupaSpiritHotline,whichwillallowMassJCL
memberstoaskquestionsaboutspirit,andreceiveresponsesfrombothherandotherchapters.
Shehasconnectionswithlocalofficersfromacrossthestate,thecurrentandpreviousMassJCL
boards,andHannahSeriac,thecurrentNJCLSecondVicePresident.Sheiscomfortablewith
interactingandcommunicatingwithotherboardmembers.Aftersheconcludesherspeech,the
audienceapplaudes.Questionscommence.WilliamasksAnnahowshewill,whilecampaigning
atStateConvention,reconcilethefactthatshehastheexperiencenecessaryforspirit,publicity,
andcommunityservice.Annaexplainsherexperiencewithspirit,particularlyhowshewas
assignedtohelpleadaspiriteventatthelastSpiritPartybeforeNationalConvention,whereshe
grewcomfortablewithcheering.Shealsomentionsherpreviousexperienceswithcommunity

participationintheRoslindaleParade.ShehasattendedthelasttwoNationConventions,which

ProjectsandinitiatestatewideChapteroftheMonthcontests.Additionally,shewouldliketo
publishseasonalnewslettersinordertoinformchaptersofupcomingspiritandservice
opportunities.ShehasattendedtwoStateBoardmeetings,andhasreadtheMinutesfromboth
thisyearandthepreviousyear.Shehasalsospokenwiththosewhohaveexperiencewiththe
activitiesshewillberesponsiblefor,andwilltryherbesttoeffectivelycommunicatewithother
boardmembersandchapters.Afterapplause,thequestionscommence.WilliamasksCarinahow
shewill,whilecampaigningatStateConvention,reconcilethefactthatshehastheexperience

.Heexplainshowallthreeofthoseexperienceshavepreparedhimforworkingas
Secretaryonthestatelevel.Ifelected,hewillincorporateacrosswordpuzzleattheendofeach
setofMinutes,whichcanbesubmittedfortheopportunityofreceivingarewardattheendofthe
year.HebelievesthatthiswillincentivizemorepeopletoreadtheMinutes.Headmiresthevalue
oftruth,andbelievesthattheMinutesareanimpartationofthetruthbehindtheMassJCLs

andtwoNationalConventions.Recently,shehasattendedMassJCLs

learnedbothleadershipandcampaigningskills.KaylahasbeenontheBLSJCLboardfortwo
years,andforoneofthoseyears,occupiedtheroleofaTreasurer.Sheworksregularlyatacaf,
wheresheconductsdutiesthatreflecttheresponsibilitiesthatshewillhaveasMassJCL
Treasurer.Shehasexperiencemanagingherownfinancesandwithonlinebanking.Duetolack
ofinvolvementwithCertamen,shewillhavemoretimetomakeconnectionswithstudentsfrom
otherchaptersduringStateConvention.Shementionsherinvolvementwithotherschoolclubs,
andtalksaboutwhysheholdstheconceptofleadershiptoahighstandard.Shefinishesby
summarilylistingallofherqualifications.Applausefollows,andthenthequestionsbegin.Louis
asksKaylahowshewilladdresshergapintreasurywork,asshewasaBLSJCLTreasurertwo
yearago,butwastheSpiritCoordinatorthispastyear.Kaylafeltinspiredbythespiritactivities
atlastyearsStateConvention,soshedecidedtorunforaspiritrelatedoffice.However,she
realizedthatherskillsandexperienceswerebettersuitedforbeingatreasurer,andreflected
upontheimportanceofthetreasuryforBLSJCLandMassJCL.Shedoesnotregretherdecision
tobecometheSpiritCoordinator,butatthesametimehasnotlostanyofthequalificationsthat

makehersuitabletobecometheMassJCLTreasurer.WilliamasksKaylaifshehasanyideas
abouteitherimprovingcurrentfundraisersorintroducingnewones.Shetalksaboutthesuccess
ofCoinWars,whichsheaimstocontinue,butalsomentionsthepossibilityofexecutingthe
YankeeCandleFundraiseronastatewidelevel.

WillBurnetthopestorunforMassJCLHistorian.Hepassesaroundhisflyers,
andthenwritesdownthelinktooneofhisdigitalscrapbooksonawhiteboard.Hehasattended
threeStateConventionsandthreeNationalConventions.AsBLSJCLHistorian,hehastakenan
estimatedtotalofoverthreethousandphotographs.HehashelpedcreatetwofirstplaceNational
ScrapbooksandonefirstplaceStateScrapbook.HehasskillsandexperiencewithAdobe
InDesignandvariousotherdigitaleditingplatforms,whichwillhelphimexpandhisknowledge
ofscrapbookcreationfromthephysicaltodigitalmedium.Hehasapassionforboth
photographyandassemblingscrapbooks.Additionally,heiscurrentlymanagingaBLSJCL
Flickraccount,withanarchiveofphotographsthatdatebackto2011and2012.However,he
hasntonlyuploadedpicturesontotheaforementionedBLSJCLFlickraccount,butalsothe
NJCLFlickraccount.Ifelected,hewillreachouttohistoriansfromlocalchapters,andattempt
toestablishacentralplacewherelocalhistoriancanshareideas.Asidefromthat,heplanson
createinformationalpacketsaboutcreatingscrapbooks,whichwillbedistributedbothphysically
andelectronically.WilliamgivestimefortheboardtolookoverWillsdigitalscrapbook
example,whichpassedfrompersontopersononAllysonscomputationaldevice.Michaelasks
Willifhewillbemakingbothaphysicalanddigitalscrapbook,sowhichWillrepliesinthe
affirmative.Althoughdigitalscrapbookshavenotbeenyetimplementedonastatewidelevel,
theyhaveseenrelativesuccessonthenationallevel.Thus,Willhopestoimplementtheoption

flyers.Shestartsherspeechwithastoryaboutwhyshefirstbegantodevoteherartistictalent
towardsBLSJCL.ShehasservedasaHistorianformultipleyearsontheBLSJCLboard.Over
time,shehasincreasinglygainedexperienceoncreatingscrapbooks,andparticipatedintwo
firstplacewinningscrapbooksoneonthenationallevel,andoneonastatewidelevel.She
hastakenovertwothousandphotographsasBLSJCLHistorian,andhasdesignedvarious
tshirts,logos,andeventdecorations,someexamplesofwhichshedemonstratestotheboardon
aposter.Ifelectedshewillintroducenewideas,suchasmakingmonthlyvideos.Sheexplains
howherinvolvementwithJCLhashelpedhergrownotonlyasHistorian,butalsoasaperson.
