WELCOME TO DONGPO KITCHEN!

The unique Sichuan concept
by Meizhou Dongpo Restaurants
at Universal Studios Hollywood CityWalk.

The story of Meizhou Dongpo Restaurants begins with its passionate

founders, Mr. Gang Wang and Mrs. Di Liang:
At the age of sixteen, a young Mr. Wang left his home for Beijing to pursue
a career in the culinary arts. Mr. Wang apprenticed to the legendary master
of Sichuan cuisine, Mr. Gan Guoquing, also known as The Presidents Chef.
Mr. Wang began his career by cleaning vegetables, and washing dishes, but
under the tutelage of chef Gan, Mr. Wang came to be expertly trained in the
rich traditions of Sichuan cuisine, and rose in prominence among chefs in
Beijing.
Mr. Wang met Di Lang in Beijing, herself a waitress who later became an
accomplished chef. A culinary match made in heaven, they opened their
first restaurant in 1996, which they named Meizhou Dongpo Restaurant.
Meizhou is the ancient name of Mr. Wangs hometown, Mei Shan.
Dongpo refers to the prominent Chinese essayist, poet, and chef of the 11th
Century, Su Dongpo Shi. Su Dongpo of Meizhou not only penned some of
the most beautiful literary pieces in Chinese history, he also created the renowned Dongpo style cuisine. Meizhou Dongpo has been dedicated to the
Dongpo tradition since 1996. Today, it operates in over 120 locations across
mainland China, serving more than 30 million guests annually.
In 2008, the teams dedication, focus, and many accolades won Dongpo
Restaurants the prestigious task of catering to the athletes at the 2008 Beijing
Olympic Games. In 2013, the group opened their first Dongpo Restaurant
outside of China in Century City in Los Angeles, California - a landmark step
to initiate the North American expansion of Meizhou Dongpo. Today Chef
Wang and Chef Liang are thrilled to welcome you to their newest restaurant,
Dongpo Kitchen on CityWalk at Universal Studios Hollywood.

AN ODE TO DONGPO

The immense beauty of Sichuans mountains and rivers attracted

many admirers. Su Dongpo Shi
(1037~1101) was one of them. An
essayist, poet, painter, and a statesman, Su Dongpo was one of the most
influential individuals in both literature and politics. Often recognized
as the Chinese William Shakespeare,
Dongpo penned some of the most
significant literary works in Chinese
history. Numbers of them were
specifically on gastronomy, such as
The Tea Tale, The Gourmet, and The
Tofu Poem. Dongpo also developed
his own style of cuisine, created renowned dishes such as Dongpo Pork
Belly and Dongpo Pork Hock, which
are still widely popular today.
