3. Travel Tips
a. Lockers All train stations have lockers, so when on small outing try to keep stuff in
lockers, The lockers can only be opened once after locking, so make sure you have all
the stuff with you
b. Currency Exchange Many countries do not accept Euro, and you need to exchange
money. So check the rates at 2 or 3 different counters. Do not use Western Union, very
costly. Also check for commissions, as many provide exchange at good rate without
commission.
4. Train Travelling
a. Most trains do not require reservation even if it says so in the euro rail app. The only
trains with compulsory reservation are TGV in France, HST in Sweden, Avant, Ave &
altaria in Spain & Le Frecce in Italy
b. Most CNL (City Night Liners) the night trains if only sleeper, will have high reservation
fee, so avoid these. Anything with 2nd class sitting or couchette, you can use.
c. While travelling in trains look for connection with ICE as they are faster.
d. In trains, above the seat or outside cabin, there is a display with name of person, if no
name, you can take it. Even a cabin, its free.
e. Reservation is required in Norway, but is minimal at 2Euro. For first class its free. Also
Norway has some night trains, like Oslo to Bergen.
f. Similarly Turin to Naples have a free night train too.

a. In Italy you get tickets for local transport from tobacco shops and news stand

i. Only small cabin baggage of approximately 45 ltr and 10 kg capacity are allowed

13. Safety Tips


a. Keep your luggage with you at all times, preferable next to you or overhead
compartment
b. Take care of your Eurail pass as a torn or unstapled Eurail pass can be taken for a
counterfeit
c. Be aware of fraud policeman asking to check your passport
d. Dont exchange money from street touts
e. People selling phones at cheap prices are usually frauds
f. Avoid travelling to Marseille at night or most of France for that matter
