Focus on Intern: Nicholas Cepeda

Nicholas Cepeda is interning with the IT department at AAR this summer focusing on improving the
Companys business intelligence capabilities. During his service in the Marine Corps, he worked in
aviation supply. While stationed at MCAS Cherry Point, NC, he noticed an AAR warehouse across the
street. Once he returned home, he researched the Company and the rest is history.

1. What projects have you been working on this summer as an intern?

I was the lead on an AAR World IT Site Map dashboard in Oracle Business Intelligence. This dashboard
is an interactive map that drills down to all 73 AAR locations with operations information for the IT
executives.

2. Whats your favorite part of working at AAR?

The best part was being able to add real value as an intern. Instead of coffee runs and paperwork filing
I was treated as a competent employee responsible for a significant project. I learned more about IT in
these few weeks than during most of my time in university.
Nicholas reports to Duane Gregory, Senior Director of Business Systems. He also mentioned how helpful
and knowledgeable his coworkers are. Some notable AAR mentors are Duane Gregory, Mansur Sheikh,
Shams Abbasi and Jiying Ni, all of whom work in the IT department.

3. What have you learned in your time here?

Nicholas has acquired a wide array of knowledge and understanding during his time at AAR. Hes learned
about Oracle Databases and network environments, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition 11g,
SQL Developer, Advanced SQL queries, Oracle Map Builder/spatial data, promoting procedures to name
a few.
On top of that he embraces the Doing it Right values every day. The value he emphasizes is Find a Way.
Every Day. which is crucial when working with programming in Structured Query Language (SQL).

4. What would you like to be doing 5 years from now?

I know AAR is a great fit for me. It combines my military aviation supply background and business
information systems studies together perfectly. Im hoping to intern here again next summer while I
finish my MIS degree and if things work out Id like to be working here when I graduate in December
2017.

Fun Facts about Nicholas: He received his undergraduate degree in Operations and Information
Management at the College of Business at Northern Illinois University (NIU). He is going to graduate
school for a degree in Management Information Systems also from the College of Business at NIU. He
lived in Iwakuni, Japan during his time in the Marine Corps. When hes not working he spends his time
with family: his wife, 5 year-old son and 3 year-old daughter. Together they do everything from
gymnastics to watch the latest superhero movies!
