The Crying Fish
There was once a princess who
married a common man. Because
princess father disapproved of the
marriage, the couple had to leave the
kingdom and settle in a far away place.
Although the new life of the princess did
not have the things she used to enjoy,
she was very happy, for the husband was
a good and loving man.

WHY WAS SHE HAPPY IN HER NEW

LIFE?
Her happiness increased with birth
of his child, a healthy baby boy. She took
good care of him and kept him away from
the sight of other people. Although her
father had declared that he never wanted
to see her again, she feared that he
would want to get the baby if he learned
that it was a boy.
STOP
WHY DID HIS FATHER DECLARED THAT
HE NEVER
WANTED TO SEE HER BABY?
She accidentally heard that some
strangers had been asking about a
woman fitted her description. As soon as
she heard this she told her husband that

they had to go to another place at once.

The husband agreed and they went to a
neighboring island.
STOP
WHAT DID SHE ACCIDENTALLY
HEAR?
In order to assure himself of his
place as a ruler, her uncle wanted her
dead. This was the reason for the order to
search for her. The men took her to a boat
to drown her in the middle of the sea. As
soon as they had reached the deepest
part of the
water, the men threw her overboard with
her baby.
STOP
WHY WERE THE STRANGERS ABLE TO
FIND HER?

As she fell she cried O, God of the

sea, take my life but not my babys. He is
innocent of any wrong. Take him in into
your kingdom. No sooner had she said
this felt her baby slipping from her tight
holds. He was changed in to a fish.
