Class Reflection
This semester has been a difficult one for sure, given that it is the summer term and I
chose to take four classes to get my generals done. I am a transfer student from another
university, and am going to another university this coming fall. The summer term here at Salt
Lake Community College was just a stop for me between these two schools. This class in
particular, Geography 1000, taught me a number of things not just about the subject matter but
about what it takes to be a college student.
Ive taken a Geology class last fall at another university that focused a lot on natural
disasters and hazards, so a lot of this material in geography I already knew, and this class has
been an incredible supplement to what Ive already learned about the world we live in. However,
as far as being a student in this class, I have learned to take up more responsibility into learning
the subject matter and applying it to my own life more than any other science class I have taken
at any university. I had to branch out what I expected to learn in the class and take it upon myself
to learn it all, not just what was going to be on the tests. I needed to learn how it worked in the
real world, not just how it applied to the classroom and my grade.
This class taught me a lot more about how to manage my time in order to fit everything
into an already tightly packed schedule. Reflecting on this class I think it would have been wise
to take less classes during the summer, but I believe it has helped me become more efficient
rather than overwhelming.
