Zinke, Juneau to debate in Frazer

The campaigns of Rep. Ryan Zinke and State

Superintendent Denise Juneau are pleased to announce
that the candidates have agreed to a series of four debates
statewide with Montana media partners, including one
at Frazer School on Monday, August 29th, moderated
by the Glasgow Courier and Yellowstone Public Radio.

Matt Reyling of the Tampico Boys 4-H Club has been

having quite a year. He won a State B wrestling title
back in February and this Thursday was awarded
the rosette for the best market beef of the Northeast
Montana Fair. Weighing in at 1,305 pounds on
Wednesday morning, his steer was the Heavyweight
Grand Champion followed up by the Overall Grand
Champion. Aaron Fjeld, representing First Community
Bank, was the buyer at Saturdays sale.
Youre looking at a $1,500+ market hog here.
Representing Border Plains Equipment, Joe Laumeyer
bid and bid and bid until the bidding was over for the
top-notch hog of the Northeast Montana Fair, that being
Abby Engstroms Overall Grand Champion, which also
took Medium-Heavy Grand Champion, at 269 pounds.
Did they just say, $5.75 a pound?!, an elated Abby
asked before this photo was taken. Yeah, they did!
was the Buzzs reply, followed by a high-five. That Abby
of the Tampico Boys 4-H Club, what a spark plug!

CJ Nelson, a Northern Lights 4-Her, purchased Daley

Aunes Overall Grand Champion lamb of the Tampico Boys
4-H Club. Not only was it the the #1 lamb, it was also the
Heavyweight Grand Champion. Hmmmmmm... Could be
way off here, but weve got a sneaking suspicion that this
little lamb will be around for awhile: a grand champ for future
breeding purposes, perhaps? CJ is no stranger to knowing
good bloodlines in livestock, and he may have found it in
Daleys 137-pound beauty.

Lets talk about that 4-H Club up north. Past years and
now this year, another one has made it into the winners
circle. Although it didnt make Grand Champion, the judging
was extremely tight and, Dylan Benner of the Northern
Lights collected ribbons for the Overall Reserve Champion
which made it to the final round as the Light Weight Grand
Champion, tipping the scale at 131 pounds. Marcia Gunn of
Merrill Lynch was the successful bidder.

Rich Kingsley of Valley Bank kept the auctioneers busy to

finally end up with Jaycee Wixsons Overall Reserve Champ
and Heavyweight Reserve Champion steer that weighed in at
an even 1,300 pounds. Jaycee is proud to have represented
the Cherry Creek 4-H Club over the years.

Loden Idler of the Milk River Wranglers had the Overall

Reserve Champion hog and it was also the Heavyweight
Grand Champion, just four pounds shy of 300 pounds. John
Koss of Saco Dehy wrote a hefty check for this fine hog.

No one can deny how much Don Nelson enjoys the

Northeast Montana Fair. Following a Nelson Ranch
championship performance at the Old Mil Ranch Rodeo
on July 23rd, he stopped in at the 4-H/FFA Livestock
Sale on July 30th and spent his winnings (and more)
on a hog raised by Charlie Cornwell of the Tampico
Boys 4-H Club and will be eating pork chops from the
Medium Weight Grand Champion, a 246-pound oinker.

Just being neighborly? Gina Reyling (Dr. Joe

Reyling Dentistry) was happy to buy Daley Aunes
Light Weight Grand Champion. While both are
involved in the Tampico Boys 4-H Club, they
actually live up the road from each other on....
Cherry Creek! Yep, all good family friends. Oh, and
that guy in the background? Thats Kevin Nelson
who has been pushing the hogs through the sales
ring since his kids have been old enough to have
livestock projects.

Blaire Westby of the Northern Lights 4-H Club raised the

Medium Weight Grand Champion, a 1,250 pounder that was
purchased by Tanner Trower of Pro Co-op. Well no doubt
be seeing more of Blaire through the years at the Northeast
Montana Fair. That Westby crew up there northwest of Opheim
knows their livestock!

Yep, harvest is in full swing, but Mike Guttenberg was able to take time
out for the boys at Zerbe Bros. to attend the Northeast Montana Fair
and spend some of Galens cash. Trey Johnson of the Western Valley
4-H Club didnt have the heavy hitter, but his Light Weight Reserve
Champion shows that his future is looking mighty bright with quite a
few years of 4-H to go. Trey is one of those kids that really dedicates
his time to the great organization of 4-H and will no doubt be one of
their future leaders.

Russ Copenhaver of Hi-Line Security Systems and

Chaykota Christensen of the Western Valley 4-H
Club pose with her little piggy that went to market.
Actually it wasnt that little as it was the Medium
Weight Reserve Champion tipping the scale at
248 pounds during Wednesdays weigh-in.

Joe Laumeyer of Border Plains Equipment is another

one of those fellows whos been around the farm and
ranch all his life and made a great decision in purchasing
Mandy Fuhrmanns Light Weight Grand Champion (1,205
pounds). You may remember Mandy from a few years
ago in the Buzz, with tears in her eyes. The Four Leaf
Clover 4-Her is still having a tough time letting go of her
critters, as the tears prove. But you know, that aint bad
at all, as this young lady puts her heart and soul into her
market projects, and its tough to say goodbye to an
animal youve nurtured for nearly a year.

It was emotional moment for Emmah Mix as well,

especially when its that cute little lamb that you raised
from when it was knee high to a child. We couldnt
get Emmah to crack a smile as the realization sunk
in that she wouldnt be seeing her market project
again, but when it finally sinks in that Marcia Gunn
of Merrill Lynch paid a premium price for her Light
Weight Reserve Champion (119 pounds) and the
check is in the bank, things will get easier next year
for this darling little Milk River Beavers 4-H member.
We promise, Emmah, it will get easier!
