Building Description:
Second Empire style Art Studio on first
floor and Residential Space above.
Exterior Faade:
Second Empire was the first true style of
the Victorian era in the United States.
The style was most popular in the
Northeast and Midwest, but rare in the
South. The term, Second Empire refers
directly to the styles inspiration in
France, particularly to the reign of
Napoleon III (1852-1870) who
undertook a major building campaign to
transform Paris into a city of grand
boulevards and monumental buildings.
The urban redesign and Renaissanceinspired architecture of Napoleons Paris
was subsequently copied and applied
throughout Europe and North America.
