AnnouncingGTCASA2016YouthWorkshopfor8,9,10:2123September2016

Thankyouforforyourcontinuingsupportofthespeciallearningneedsofgiftedchildren.Iam
pleasedtoannouncethattheGiftedandTalentedChildrensAssociationofSouthAustralia
(GTCASA)iscollaboratingwithFlindersUniversityagaintoprovideaYouthWorkshopforgifted
childreninyears8,9and10.Weencourageyouandyourstafftonominatestudentswhowould
benefitfromchallengingextensionactivities,andsupporttheirattendanceatthisextension
activity.

Extensionlearningactivity:
TheGiftedandTalentedChildrensAssociationofSAorganisesa
YouthWorkshopextensionactivityforgiftedstudentsinYears8,9and10.Thishasbeen
enormouslypopularwithstudentsoverrecentyears.Thestudentswillbeabletoselectfroma
widevarietyofextensionsessionsdeliveredbyexpertsintheirfields.

Whoiseligible
:TheworkshopsareforjuniorsecondaryschoolstudentsinYear8,9and10
whowouldbenefitfromextensionactivities.SchoolsincludeDECD,Catholicschoolsand
independentschools.Whilenoformalgiftedassessmentisrequired,weneedtoemphasisethat
theworkshopswillbechallengingandareaimedatstudentswhoarealreadyachievingor
capableofachievingatahighlevelinsimilardisciplines.Westronglyencouragecountry
studentstoapply.

Whereisitheld:
TheworkshopsareheldatFlindersUniversity,startingandfinishingeachday
intheScienceInnovationLearningCentre(SILC).ThenearestcarparkisPark9.

Whenwillitbe:
The2016YouthWorkshopwillbeheldfromWednesday21stSeptemberto
Friday23rdSeptember.Inpreviousyearsthishasbeenheldinschoolholidays.Thisyearthe
schoolholidaysdonotalignwiththemidsemesterbreakatFlindersUniversity.Wechosethe

2ndtolastweekofterm3sothatstudentswillhavetheopportunitytosharetheirlearningwith
theirschoolinthefollowingweek.

Supervision:
TheworkshopwillbefullysupervisedbyindividualsholdingDCSIclearancesfor
workingwithchildrenbetween8:30amand4:30pm.

Dropoffandpickup:
Childrenshouldbedroppedoffby9amforpreworkshopactivitiessuch
asregistration.Formallearningconcludesby4pm,andstudentscanbecollectedthen.Forthe
convenienceofparents,childrenwillbesupervisedtosocialisewitheachotheruntil4:30pm.
Studentswaitingforthefinalhalfhouroffreetimeareencouragedtobringafavourite
(nonelectronic)gametosharewhilewaitingforpickup.

Selfcatering:
Studentswillneedtobringtheirownfoodforrecessandlunch.TheFlinders
Universitycafeteriaisclosedduringtheworkshop,becausethisistheuniversitybreak.

Format
:Studentswillhaveachoiceofapproximately6workshopsforeachTopic.Topics1and
2cover3sessions,andTopics3and4arecoveredinjustonesession.
