TERM 1 TEAM NEWSLETTER

FEBRUARY 2016

Team Quest
Welcome to 2016!
A warm welcome to our new Clearview
families and to all of our existing families
welcome back! This newsletter outlines
the Term 1 plans to start 2016 in the year
5/6 Team Quest!
We have a large team of 8 homebases at
the front of the school which have been
split into two groups of 4. For ease we
have named these by hemispheres, South
is HB30-33 (existing buildings) and North
is HB34-37 (new buildings). Ryan Burson
is the overall Team Quest Leader and
support leader of South in HB33. Tania
Soal is the support leader of North in
HB37. Each pair of homebases has
selected a continent as a way to name
their space. The teachers making up the
team are listed below with their
continent:
The Americas: Lauren Thomas (HB30)
and Katie Newell (HB31)
Africa: Kirsty Bailey (HB32) and Ryan
Burson (HB33)
Asia: Alice Pilgrim (HB34) and Jason
Galland (HB35)
Europe: Caitlin Buttle (HB36) and Tania
Soal (HB37)
We look forward to the year ahead in
Team Quest!

Term One Curriculum

Literacy: Our focus in writing for the year is persuasive writing.
We will begin covering this during term one and revisit this genre
at times during the year. Our reading programme will link closely
with our writing and at times will also be integrated into other
learning areas. We will also be covering descriptive writing.
Numeracy: In the first part of the term our strand maths will cover
probability. Later in the term we will be covering number
knowledge and strategies for solving problems with addition and
subtraction.
The Arts: We will be diving into the world of construction, including
a visit from House of Bricks to inspire our creations.
P.E/Sport: We will be looking at skills and game play for invasion
games. During the term we have gymnastics tuition, a notice is
coming home this week with the details. Also note the swimming
sports date below.
Inquiry: Our inquiry topic for the year is Connect 4 which looks at
connecting ourselves to the wider world. The beginning of this
starts by connecting within, and developing a growth mindset as a
learner.

Be sunsmart!
All children need to be wearing
their school hat in term 1, no hat
no play!

running. The format will be different from previous years, please
pencil the date, Wednesday 24th February, and look out for the
details coming soon.

Uniform and Footwear

Please ensure that children are keeping to our uniform standards. If

you are unsure then please check the website for details of the
summer uniform. Children are active daily and are welcome to
bring a change of footwear, however they must wear their
appropriate black footwear at all other times.
A Clearview sports top is now available for purchase to wear as an
option for PE lessons and when representing the school. See the
uniform shop for details.

Details of our bring your own device programme will be sent out in
the coming weeks. Initially we will be spending some time setting up
programmes and educating children around cyber safety before
asking for devices to be brought from home.

Home learning

Details of our home learning programme will be home with children

this week. Please take the time to read through the information with
children and ask questions if you are unsure of expectations.

Team Quest Camp

We are off to camp next term! The team will go in two separate
groups, see opposite for the dates. Later in the term we will be
asking for parent helpers to support this camp. For financial
planning the cost will be approximately $140-150 per child for the 3
day and 2 night camp.
