Prompt: If your last name begins with an O - S type "Marcia Imbeau" or "Marcia B. Imbeau." List
three articles. Provide the name of each article and the year each article was published. Choose
one article and write a three-paragraph summary of the article. (5 points) A paragraph equals
five - eight sentences. Anything less is not considered a paragraph. A good detailed paragraph
is usually eight sentences. The summary must be focused on the article. Do not provide your
opinion. Be specific. Please do NOT submit in the "Comments box" as I will be unable to tell
where your paragraphs begin and end and it looks like one long paragraph to me. Submit as a
Word document and make sure it is obvious where your paragraphs are. Do not submit as a
PDF file. The three-paragraph summary must be in your own words. Do not write a summary of a book you will not receive any points.

Summary of Article 1:
Bridging the Gap: A Tool and Technique to Analyze and Evaluate Gifted Education

Curricular Units
Over the years, the U.S has leaned toward more basic school curricula and classes.
School systems focused more on the bare minimum when it came to teaching and were only
concerned about the easier core classes. Some of these core classes included basic reading
and math. Although, some students benefitted from the more basic classes, the more gifted
students needed to be challenged in a new way. In order to make these changes, people in

power such as the government and various associations worked to make changes in the school
curricula.
The National Association of Gifted Children have been working on new ways of
challenging children in the classroom. Since the 1990s, the standards held for the school
systems have changed in more ways than one. Some people such as the Cambridge,
Massachusetts governors and business leaders, have been working on improving school
curricula as well. This specific group of professionals is still concerned about the topics that are
often repeated in each grade. Instead of challenging the students to more difficult courses,
schools take the easier road by giving more basic classes to the students.
The quality of textbooks were also examined as one of the problems within school curricula. The
math and literature textbooks have been recognized as some of the most criticized. The main
issue dealing with literature textbooks is the lack of challenge. Some of the sections in the
textbooks were more low-level and did not require much critical thinking of the students. The
math textbooks were infact reported to the federal government in order to make necessary
changes.
