THE GREAT VICTORY
The locals call it "Ibukota" which means mother city. A vast, mystical city
that combines modern technology with old world atmosphere. But it wasn't
always this way.
In the 16th Century, Jakarta was known as Sunda Kelapa, a harbour city of
the Hindu Kingdom, it traces its founding from 22 June 1527 when Islamic
troops led by Prince Fatahillah conquered the city and changed its name to
Jayakarta, or "Great Victory". After 100 years of peace, it was taken over by the
Dutch who named it Batavia. In 1945, after a brief occupation during WW2,
Indonesian finally proclaimed its independence.
For centuries, visitors have met and traded in Jakarta while enjoying its
diverse ethnic cultures and rich heritage.
THE WORLD TRADE CENTER
Jakarta's fame as a trade centre began with the early Javanese kingdoms and
was spread by the early Europeans including the Portuguese, Dutch and

English traders. Almost anything that was available in the world could be found
in Jakarta including the region's famous spices, seafaring equipment, Chinese
porcelain, bronze artifacts, fabrics and furniture. Since the days when Captain
James Cook visited for ship repairs, Jakarta has been Indonesia's main center of
commerce. Modern Jakarta, Indonesia's capital, is a booming metropolis of
nine million people and the gateway to 200 million people.
The fast development and well designed infrastructure make Jakarta an ideal
trading place.
A HIDDEN AGENDA
Of course, working all day makes for dull business, so Jakarta's citizens found
one of their usual efficient solutions. They created a city full of luxury hotels,
international restaurants, shopping malls, golf courses, art galleries, nightclubs,
theme parks, zoos, markets, theatres and monuments.
Just to be on the safe side, they included a bunch of mountain resorts nearby
and scattered a few hundred islands half an hour away. To top it all off, the
world's most famous island resort, Bali, and shoppers paradise, Singapore, are
just an hour's flight away. Naturally these frivolities mean nothing to serious
business types only interested in making deals, but they make compelling
arguments when you're convincing your staff of the "global importance" of this
year's conference.

memory.
The Jakarta Convention Center is versatile as well, with a 5,000 seat Plenary
Hall, 3,921 sqm Assembly Hall divisible into three smaller rooms, two
Exhibition Halls with a combined total of 9,585 sqm, a Bonded Warehouse, 13
various sized Meeting Rooms and a 5,500 sqm Main Lobby that can be used
for all sorts of functions.
THE HALL OF FAME
The Plenary Hall is so flexible, it has played host to the world's most famous
leaders as well as the world's most famous pop stars. We've hosted United
Nations Conferences, APEC Meetings and the 10th Non Aligned Movement
Summit.
In between, we've had stars such as Sting, Julio Iglesia and Roxette. In fact, the
Plenary Hall has catered to everyone from Heads of States to MC Hammer.
Which is not surprising when you realise the Hall can accommodate 5,000

people and is equipped with sophisticated AV equipment including two 64monitor video walls, a Meyer sound system and a Simultaneous Interpreting
System (SIS) for up to eight languages. The Plenary Hall is flexible enough for
any purposes, and perfect when you're communicating a powerful message.
ASSEMBLE YOUR TROOPS
After you've managed to get everyone in the same city at the same time, getting
them into one room should be the last of your worries. Our Assembly Hall
accommodates 2,500 people for a sit-down meal or 4,500 for a reception. Its
flexibility suits almost any type of function including luncheons or dinners,
classroom or theatre style conferences, gala balls, pop and fashion shows,
product launches and even award ceremonies.
Moveable partitions provide greater flexibility as you can create different sized
halls and hold separate functions simultaneously. At almost 4,000 square
meters, the Assembly Hall is Indonesia's largest banquet room and is equipped
with a Simultaneous Interpreting System, portable video walls and other stateof-the-art AV equipment.
SHOW OF AND EXHIBITIONISTS
When you've got a great product and a great sales team, all you need is
somewhere to show them. May we suggest either one of our two Exhibition
Halls. Hall A is 3,060 sqm with a floor load of 1,200 kg/sqm, while Hall B is
6,075 sqm with a floor load of 1,500 kg/sqm. Both Halls are connectable by a
450 sqm corridor for a total space of 9,585 sqm.
They're equipped with telephone and communication outlets, single or triple
phase electricity, water, drainage, compressed air and direct truck access. Two
Pre-Function Lobbies of 1,000 sqm each are available.
For your increased flexibility, a Bonded Warehouse guarantees fast customs
clearance of temporarily imported goods. It's as convenient as having your
show at the airport, without the noisy planes.
SIZE COUNTS FOR EVERYTHING
13 flexible Meeting Rooms with varying sizes and capacities are designed to
adjust to the needs of our smaller - but still important- clients. With capacities
that range from 20 to 1,000, our Meeting Rooms cater for everything from
seminars, boardroom meetings, workshop, product launches, exhibitions and
gala dinners. Each room is finished with the same meticulous attention to detail
and high quality fittings that are found in the larger Halls.
The Center's Lower Level Lobby is adjacent to the Meeting Rooms and offers
guests a choice of environments in which to socialise. You have the flexibility
of a quiet lounge and bar area, or a spacious, open cafeteria, ideal for quick
meals and chance encounters.

SATISFY ANY HUNGER

Whether your function is for ten, a thousand or tens of thousands, our Catering
Staff have the flexibility to feed all of them. We can prepare any dish that's
required, whether it's local or international. Gourmet meals prepared in our
immense kitchen areas are overseen by internationally renowned chefs who
understand that even when you're feeding thousands of people, every meal
counts.
From buffet style spreads to 5-course banquets, each and every dish is prepared
with infinite care, because in the traditional Indonesian way of life, food is a
celebration and should be treated as such. And while we often suggest our own
specialities, we always ensure our food is suitable for all cultures.
