Topics to be covered in the Orientation course (Five sessions)


The aim of the orientation program is to introduce the basic concepts and prepare the
students coming from various undergraduate courses to a common platform, so that they
would find learning the subject proper, comfortable.
There will be 5 sessions each of 90 minutes each.

Processing of Raw Data - Converting data into information


Classification and tabulation; Cross-tabulation
Graphical representation of data Bar-chart, Histogram,
Pie-chart
EDA method of display - stem and leaf diagram
The five-number summary of data- Percentiles and quartiles
Measures of central tendency, dispersion, skewness and kurtosis
Box-Plot, Chebychevs theorem, and Z-scores methods of
detecting outliers
Wrap-up and Evaluation

The evaluation consists of a Quiz/Test on the above topics for 30 weightage points.
Material if any will be shared during the sessions.
