A bumper crop, but...

CA Hames, who knows agriculture about as good as anyone

(hes worked at Farm Equipment Sales for many-a-year))
was out inspecting a wheat crop last week. For those who
have the storage space, theyll probably be okay, he said of
bumper crops but terribly low wheat prices, adding that the
protein percentage plays a vital role in the price of wheat.
According to figures from the Chicago Board of Trade, for
the past two years U.S. wheat prices have been below $5 a
bushel and slipped to below $4 a bushel this year, a far cry
from the almost $9 a bushel earned between 2011 and 2014.
Its a global market that drives wheat prices into the toilet; its
supply and demand, and right now there is too much supply.
Russia and Ukraine also have record-setting crops this year.

Chief Justice Mike McGrath has notified the Judicial

September 1, 2016. The Commission will announce the
names of the applicants thereafter.
The public is encouraged to contact Commission
members regarding the applicants during the public
comment period, which will begin Friday, September 2,
2016, and close Monday, October 3, 2016.
The Commission will forward the names of three

reviewing the applications, receiving public comment,
and interviewing the applicants if necessary.

that You will be required to have a person in charge
who can demonstrate adequate food safety knowledge
during all hours of operation.
ServSafe training is the most effective means of
ensuring that each person in charge has this necessary
knowledge.
MSU Extension Agent Roubie Younkin will offer
ServSafe Training August 24, 2016 from 8:00 am to
5:00 pm in the conference room of the Frances Mahon

Seems Justin Fuhrmann and

theyre definitely no strangers

side note, Justin is getting his

Hi-Line Home Programs celebrating 40 years of service

June 2, 1976 marks the day Hi-Line Home
Programs, Inc., became a 501-3C corporation. The
program opened its doors working with the State of
Montana under three different contracts. They began
serving children and adults with developmental
disabilities.
At that time there were two employees and a part
time Office Administrator/Bookkeeper. Over the past
40 years, additional contracts have been added to the
corporations services which were identified as needed
to benefit the families and children in this area.
All services are offered within the clients
natural environment. Currently the contracts are the
Developmental Disabilities Programs: Part C which
serves children from birth to age three who have
a diagnosis at birth or are at risk for developmental
delays for numerous reasons; Family Education &
Support Service Title XX which serves children from
age 3 through age 21 and have that diagnosis from birth
or continue to demonstrate developmental delays and
continue to meet eligibility requirements; Childrens
Waiver Service which serves children with identified
intensive delays and allows for more services to be
provided under the 0208 Waiver Program.
We also work closely with our sister-agency DEAP
out of Miles City to provide services for children
who may qualify for the Autism Waiver services. We
continue working with adults under Supported Living
Services. This program works with adults who may be
identified with developmental delays but are able to live
independently with minimal intervention and services.
From the extension of services under the DDP
Contracts, the additional programs that were added
are: Child & Adult Food Program as a sponsor to

Licensed Family Child Care Homes where we provide

nutrition education and support to those providers
participating in this program; In-Home Services which
is a contract with Department of Family Services.
We work with families at risk for losing their
children or currently have children in foster care
and have a parenting plans and goals set to work on
to reunite the family together. Transitional Living
Services is a relatively new program for us. It is
working with foster children beginning at the age of 14
and assisting them with plans for their future as they
begin the process of transitioning out of foster care.
In the past 40 years, satellite offices have been
opened in Plentywood, Sidney, Wolf Point, Malta and
a part time staff member continues working from
a home office out of Miles City. There are currently
13 full-time staff members and 40 casual employees
working around the 11 counties which HLHP serves.

Over the years the clients served
have reached over 800 children, families and adults.
The staff holds degrees in Education, Early Childhood,
Special Education, or Human/Social Services and,
of course, bookkeeping and accounting to keep the
Administrative Department running smoothly.
Our casual employees work in what is considered
a direct service capacity with children and adults who
have been identified with special needs and disabilities.
They are trained in a variety of specialized fields to
meet the individual needs of each client.
Please join Hi-Line Home Programs in celebrating
their 40th anniversary with an Open House on
Thursday, August 18th from 1-4 p.m. at the Glasgow
office located at 605 3rd Avenue South. Come meet
the staff and learn more about the programs.

What are those big red circles on the Olympic athletes?

A number of Olympians including the most
decorated Olympic athlete of all time, swimmer Michael
Phelps have been photographed with large red circles
on their skin.
What are they, and why is everyone suddenly going
dotty over them?
The mark of an Olympic athlete, at least at Rio 2016,
seems to be a scattering of perfectly round bruises.
Swimmers and gymnasts, particularly from Team USA,
are among those seen sporting the mysterious dots.
No, not paintballing misadventures or hickies:
they are the result of a practice known as cupping, an
ancient therapy where heated cups are placed on the
skin. The technique, which is a form of acupuncture, is
done by lighting flammable liquid in a glass cup. Once
the flame goes out, the drop in temperature creates
suction which sticks the cups to the body. The suction
pulls the skin away from the body and promotes blood
flow and leaves those red spots, which typically last for
three or four days.
Athletes say they are using it to ease aches and
pains, and to help with recovery from the physical toil
of constant training and competing.
There are plenty of other recovery techniques
competitors use including sports massage, sauna, ice
baths and compression garments, but US gymnast Alex
Naddour told USA Today that cupping was better than
any money Ive spent on anything else.
The British Acupuncture
Council (BAcC) says cupping is
not painful, and the red marks
left on the skin are caused
by blood being drawn to the
surface and small capillaries
rupturing.

An illustration from a medical textbook Exercitationes

practicae published in 1694 shows a man undergoing
cupping on his butt cheeks. Cupping originated in
China some 3,000 years ago.

The marks visible on Michael Phelps (at left) as

he competed in the mens 4x100m freestyle relay on
Sunday had people on social media speculating what
they might be, with some guessing he might have been
playing paintball or attacked by a giant octopus. Or
maybe he simply fell asleep on all his medals.
