Music Independent Study
Music Independent Study
Course Description: Music Independent Study is designed for students who wish to explore, in
depth, a topic in music that is not offered in the traditional band/choir/guitar ensemble classes.
Students will select a music-related topic and collaborate with the teacher to design a course of
study on that topic. The course is largely project-based, and each quarter students will present a
cumulative project to demonstrate what they have learned. Potential topics for study include (but
are not limited to) Music Theory, Composition, Recording Technology, A Capella Music, Music
Education, Psychology of Music, or Concert Production. You do not have to have a topic in
mind before registering, but topics must be approved by the teacher during the first two weeks of
class. Space is limited and priority will be given to students with a music topic in mind.
If you are interested in registering for this class, please speak with your guidance counselor and
return this application to Mr. Matherne in person or by e-mail (nmatherne@greenecountyschools.com).
