Assessment Methods
- Review story elements What does
main character and supporting
characters mean? What does the
setting of a story mean? What does the
plot entail? 3 specific steps.
-Read the book to the class on the
reading carpet while asking questions
all throughout (Based on the title what
do you think will happen? What do you
think will happen next?)

necessary before Beach ball activity.**

beach ball there are different

Questioning/Class
discussion: What does

mean? What does the

Questioning: By a raise
of hands who wants to
review what the story
elements are again
before we do the first
activity?

questions. When you throw the ball

you must say the persons name (so
they are not caught off guard and
theyre ready to catch the ball) and
say a number from 1-6. This number
will tell the other person which
question they must answer. When
you catch the ball you must read the
question out loud and then answer
it. Demonstrate: Ask a student to
stand up. Say there name and a
number. That student will catch the
ball, say the question and then
answer that question. He/she will
then say my name and a number
and I will find that number and read
that question out loud and state my
answer.
Expectations: nicely tossing it to
someone in the circle. We are not
throwing it up and smashing it to
somebody. If I see any of that you
will be asked to sit out for the rest of
the game.
-5-10 mins of the beach ball game and
then ask everyone to sit down again.
Wait until everyone is quiet and
listening and explain Activity #2.
-Answer the questions about the
story (go through each question).
-You can use your bubblegum
spelling for this activity.
-You will be working in pairs for this
activity but everyone will be writing on
their own sheet so each pair will hand in
2 sheets, one for each of you (trio will
hand in 3 one for each of you). When
you hear you and your partners name
you can come grab a worksheet and
find a place to work.
-Transition back to their desks: Whoever
is sitting nicely and quietly call
students up by the pairs (whos being
quiet)?

Questioning: What are

you supposed to do
before throwing the ball
to somebody? What are
you supposed to do
after you catch the
ball?
Any questions?

Any questions about

this activity before I
send you back to your
desks?

Questioning: Who is
writing down the
answers on the
worksheet?

Observation: Who is
sitting quietly and
nicely?

-Jarome & Garth

-Josiah & Ezra
-Sophia & Thaddeus
-Geneva & Jayden & Zachary
