Objectives of Social Studies K-12 Curriculum

The Philippine Social Studies curriculum aims to develop nationalism, identity and
citizenship of Filipino students which are active participants of society, nation and
the world. At the same time of developing national identity and civic welfare is the
critical understanding of the past and present, internal social affairs, the
interrelationship between society and the environment, and the world, and how
does it change, in order to mold individual and collective future. To achieve the said
objectives, it is a must to give significant focus on the following social studies skills:
(i) investigation; (ii) analysis and interpretation; of information; (iii) research; (iv)
communication, especially essay writing; and (v) implementation of different
ethical standards.
