New mentalities in Latin America

With the beginning of the twentieth century, the parameters of culture in Latin America
changed substantially. The flow of ideas, scientific advances and the development of the
media did that knowledge is developed and circulated in a more comprehensive manner.

Among the most noticeable changes the introduction of new philosophical paradigms
stands. Concerns against the development and modernization led to questions about the
relationship between race and progress. the influence of the tropics in moral development
and customs of the population is analyzed and if the geographical conditions, coupled with
the variety of Latin American racial, cultural development allowed equal to Europe or the
United States. In this current Alcides Arguedas they stood out with his work A sick people
and Agustin Alvarez with the Policy Manual of Pathology. Positivism coming from the
nineteenth century, it became a modernist philosophy, in which morality was the guiding
principle. This was reflected in the educational and scientific environment. They began to
found universities, research institutes and research developed in pedagogy. Countries
such as Argentina, Mexico and Peru pioneered research institutes and the foundation of
human sciences and natural sciences, most of the time the record.
