Introduction : Limitation of Sight
Limitation of sight is whereby a person
is able to see an object / colour / shape
until a certain extend. We cannot see
through opaque objects,we are not able
to see too tiny objects, we are not able
to see too distant objects. Limitations of
sight can be overcome by using
appropriate optical devices such as
microscope, telescope, periscope and
others.

Introduction : Limitation of
Hearing

A person with normal sense of hearing

can only detect sounds between 20Hz
and 20000Hz.As we grow older, our
range of hearing decreases. There is
also a limit to how far our ear is able to
hear sounds from a distance. We cannot
hear very soft sound like our
heartbeat.Limitation of hearing can be
overcome by using appropriate hearing
aids such as microphone, stethoscope,
amplifier and others.

Devices to overcome limitations
of sight

Instrument to magnify object

that is too small for the
naked eye such as virus.
Objective lens and eyepiece
magnify image.

Microscope

viewing distant objects

-stars, planets , Moon.
The image produced by the
objective lens is magnified
by the eyepiece lens.

Telescope
4

Optical device that allows

an observer to see things
beyond his or her line of sight
in submarines.
Submarine can instead
stay safely submerged under
the water and extend a
periscope to look around.

Periscope

X-rays can be used to

detect the condition of
certain organs or detect
fracture of bones.

Devices to overcome limitations
of hearing
Like earphones and
loudspeakers, the
microphone is a
transducer -- in other
words, an energy
converter.
It senses sound and translates it into
equivalent electrical energy.

Microphone

The stethoscope is an
acoustic medical device for
listening to the internal
sounds of an animal or human
body such as heartbeat.

Stethoscope
6
A megaphone is a portable,
usually hand-held, coneshaped acoustic horn used to
amplify a persons voice or
other sounds and direct it.

Megaphone

Make sound louder to

allow the people with less
sensitive eardrums to hear.

Other information related to the
sight devices
Microscope
An early microscope was made in 1590 in
Meddelburg, Netherlands. Giovanni Faber coined
the name microscope for Galileo Galileis
compound microscope in 1625.

Telescope
An earliest recorded working telescope were the
refracting telescope that appeared in the
Netherlands in 1608. Their development is
credited to three individuals : Hans Lippershey,
Zacherias Janssen and Jacob Metius.

Periscope
In 1854 Hippolyte Marie-Davy invented the first
naval periscope, consisting of a vertical tube with
two small morrors fixed at each and at 45degree.

Simon Lake used peroscope in his submarines in

1902.

X-ray
As an experiment, Wilhelm Conrad Rntgen Xrayed his wifes hand and found that the machine
captured a picture of her bones, under the skin at
1895. Rntgen even named his discovery XRadiation.

hearing devices
Microphone
Both Thomas Alva Edison and Emile Berliner filed
patent applications for carbon microphone, in
March and June 1877 respectively.

Stethoscope
The stethoscope was invented in France in 1816
by Rene laennec at the Necker-Enfants Malades
Hospital in Paris. It consisted of a wooden tube
and was monaural.

Megaphone
The initial inventor of the speaking trumpet is a
subject of historical controversy, as both Samuel
Morland and Athanasius Kircher lay claim to the
device.

Hearing aids
The first hearing aid was invented by an American
physicist named Harvey Fletcher. He is honored
with creating the first battery operated hearing
aid.

Conclusion
Sight is very important for human being
and animal to ensure their survival. With
sight, human being and animals can
differentiate danger from other animals
and enemies from the face reaction or
action.

Hearing ensure human being can enjoy

different type of sounds such as wind
blowing, bird singing, wolf howling, dog
barking.
The limitations of sight and hearing can
be overcome by using certain devices.
