16-18 Year Olds

2016/2017
Tuition and Examination Fees

All courses have fees attached to them. Discounts and waivers are available based on
age, personal circumstances, the type of course you are studying and the level you are
studying it at.
If you are aged 16-18 at the start of your course and are not sponsored by your school
or managing agent to attend, your tuition and examination fees will be waived.
If you are attending a course in the evening, this may not apply. Contact us for
more details.
Travel
You can apply for help with travel if you live 2+ miles from your college centre of
attendance/placement and have a household income of under/up to 16,190.00 or be
eligible for the college Progress Bursary
Points to Note
1 In order to qualify for this support, both you and the course must be eligible for
EFA/SFA funding.
2 You must be enrolled on a full study programme to receive this support.
3 You will be asked to make a 20 contribution each term for this pass.
4 If you lose your pass, you will be required to pay 45 for a replacement to be
issued.
5 Termly passes will only be renewed if you meet the 90% attendance requirement.
College Bursaries
1. Progress Bursary eligibility
To qualify for this bursary you must be:
Aged 16-18 at the start of your course
and
Attending a full study programme
and
A care leaver or in care
or
In receipt of Income Support or a Universal Credit payment instead of Income
Support in your own name
or
In receipt of Employment and Support Allowance/Incapacity Benefit or Universal
Credit and Disability Living Allowance/Personal Independence Payment in your
own name
or
A young unaccompanied Asylum Seeker in one of the above groups

or
A young carer
Payment Details
30.00 per week for 36 weeks per year.
Paid directly into your bank account via BACS.
Free FE Meals
If your family receives one of the welfare benefits listed below, you may be
entitled to receive free FE meals if you are aged 16-18 on 31.8.16.
If you are aged 16-18 on 31.8.16 and receive one of the following welfare
benefits in your own name, then you may be eligible to receive free FE meals.
Income Support
Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under Part Vl of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
The Guarantee Element of State Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit (provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit) and
have an annual gross income of no more than 16,190.00, as assessed
by HMRC
Working Tax Credit run on paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for
Working Tax Credit
During the initial roll out of the benefit Universal Credit
Course Equipment Support
Still to be confirmed.
Student Fund
The college has a limited fund to offer support to students with additional on course
costs such as books, stationery, materials and equipment.
Application forms are available from the office at your centre of attendance from
October 2016.
Only one application to this fund can be made each Academic Year.
Childcare
Government funding is available through the Care to Learn scheme. In order to qualify
you must be 19 years of age or under, enrolled on a course of further education, caring
for your own children and using a registered childcare provider.

Welfare Benefits
While you remain in full time non advanced education, your family will still receive Child
Benefit and Child Tax Credit.
If you require a letter to confirm this, you can complete a Benefits Confirmation Request
Form at the Student Services office at your centre of attendance.
