Welcome to Photography! This class is an opportunity to sharpen your photography skills using both
the camera and post-editing. We will continue to study the elements and principles of art and discover how they affect photography. We will also focus on idea creation, creative thinking and developing interesting compositions. This class is designed to prepare you for high school art classes. I
expect you to give everything your best effort and with hard work you will succeed in this class.

Grading:

The breakdown for grading is as follows:

Projects: 50%
I encourage students to rework their projects for a better grade following our critiques if
the project is turned in ON TIME initially. Grade increases will be made if I feel the project
has been successfully improved based on suggestions from the critique.
Final Portfolio: 20%
PLEASE KEEP ALL YOUR WORK. You will be required to create a portfolio of your work at the
end of the semester.
Assessments & Tests: 10%
Participation, Citizenship & Other Assignments:20%

Late Work/Make-up Policy:

I will accept make-up work for one week following an absence. It is the students responsibility to
contact me to see what was missed. Late work will be accepted with 10% grade deduction for each
day late. Late work will be docked no more than half credit if turned in more than 5 days late.

Materials Needed:

Pencils with erasers

any props, materials you need for photo shoots as we get into projects
Your class fee covers the cost of the cameras, tripods, batteries and other photography tools that we
use in class. I will also give you a sketchbook which we will use for planning, notes, etc. PLEASE PAY
YOUR FEE THE SECOND OR THIRD WEEK OF SCHOOL. They wont take them until then! We will be
using DSLR cameras but will be covering basic camera functions, composition, etc. More complex
camera functions like aperture, ISO, shutter speed, etc. are covered in the high school classes. This is
an introduction to photography course.
You are more than welcome to bring your own camera to class, but it is AT YOUR OWN RISK. They
may be left in my classroom in the cupboard storage designated for your class. I am not
responsible for any damage to personal cameras in or out of my classroom.

Point and shoot cameras are available for checkout for ONE DAY
on a first-come-first-serve basis.

modeling & PHOTo etiquette

Much of our class time will be spent taking pictures and practicing the techniques that we learn in
class. Because of this, each student must be willing to act as both photographer and model. By
signing this disclosure, photographers commit to being respectful of their model and directing them
in an appropriate manner. Models commit to maturely accepting direction from the photographer
and assisting to fulfill the photographers vision in every way they can.
ALL PHOTOS TAKEN MUST BE SCHOOL APPROPRIATE AND RESPECTFUL OF THE MODEL.

Internet/Media Release

I will be keeping a classroom website (olympusjrart.weebly.com) to post important information,

assignments and due dates as well as document student work. This site is specifically for parents and
students in Ms. Baers art classes. Get familiar with our website and check back often for new additions! Images will ONLY include student artwork. No NAMES or FACES will appear on the website.
Your signature on the form below will allow me to post pictures of your students work for educational purposes only.

GOOGLE DRIVE

We will be using Google Drive to store and turn in pictures. Google Drive is a free online cloud
storage system. Please sign up for a Google account using a non-gmail email or use an existing
gmail account. You will store your images on Google Drive and also turn in all photos digitally into
a shared folder. You must EMAIL me the email address you used by FRIDAY, AUGUST 19th so I can
add you to our shared folder.
I am very excited to work with your student and explore photography together. Please email me
with any questions, comments or concerns throughout the semester. I am happy to discuss any
student matters (grades or otherwise) with the student present. They are ultimately accountable for
their grades and behavior in class. I will do everything I can to help your student succeed!
