MILESTONE ASSIGNMENT: 2

THREE AUTHENTIC LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND

ASSESSMENT.

A task or an assignment given to learners designed to assess

their ability to apply standard driven knowledge and skills to
real world. In other words, a task learners are to perform is
considered authentic when learners are asked to construct their
own responses rather than select from others and this tasks
challenges the real world about their knowledge.

ACTIVITIES

1. PERFORMING A TASK (SELECTED-RESPONSE)

Learners select an answer from among those given. They recall

or recognize information required to select the appropriate
response.

• True or false.
Example: Pollination is the process when pollen is
accepted by the stigma, a pollen tube grows down the
style and into the ovary.
• Choose the correct answer
Example: It is the process whereby the plant or flower
that has both the anther and the stigma will be able to
transfer pollen to the stigma of the same plant.
a) Pollination
b) Cross-pollination
c) Self-pollination
• Fill in the missing word

Example: Pollination is the transfer of pollen from anther

to stigma by ……………………., water or animals.

1. CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE
Learners construct an answer out of old and new knowledge.
There is limited length time and at least some of their thinking
is revealed.

• Short-answer essay question

Example: Explain the process of cross-pollination.

• Figural representation

Example: Explain how pollination occurs by using

diagrams

• Cut and paste

Example: Explain the process of self-pollination by using

picture and therefore elaborate.

1. PRODUCT

Learners construct product that reveal their understanding of

certain concepts or skills and the ability to apply or analyse or
evaluate those concepts and skills. They are allowed to present
their concepts and skills by research, posters or art exhibitions.

• Research

Example: Learners will research seed dispersal. How this

occurs.

• Posters

Example: learners will have to compile posters or pictures

that show how different pollination occurs.

• Art exhibitions

Example: Learners will draw the way they understand the

process of pollination.

POSSIBLE ANSWERS
SELECTED RESPONSE

• False
• Self-pollination
• Wind

CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE

• Pollination is the process of transferring of pollen

from anther to stigma by wind, water and animals.

• Flower Anthe Stigma
r

Here the pollen from the

flower is transferred to the stigma of the same flower.

PRODUCT

• Seed dispersal is the movement of seeds away from

parent. Seed dispersal occurs in various ways to
avoid competition with the parent seed. Plants use
various ingenious methods to disperse their seeds
like hooked seeds to stick on a passing animal, edible
ovary to be eaten and dispersed by an animal.
