COURSE DESCRIPTION
In United States History Since 1877, which is the second part of a two-year study that
begins in Grade 8, students study the history of the United States from 1877 to the
present. Historical content focuses on the political, economic, and social events and
issues related to industrialization and urbanization, major wars, domestic and foreign
policies, and reform movements, including civil rights. Students examine the impact of
geographic factors on major events and eras and analyze their causes and effects.
Students examine the impact of constitutional issues on American society, evaluate the
dynamic relationship of the three branches of the federal government, and analyze
efforts to expand the democratic process. Students use critical-thinking skills and a
variety of primary and secondary source material to understand and interpret the past,
including multiple points of view and historical context.

TEXTBOOK INFORMATION
TEXTBOOK LOG-IN
STUDENT NOTEBOOK
Students will be expected to keep a notebook for this class. Students are
expected to bring this to class EVERY DAY. Each 6 weeks we will have a
notebook TEST which will count as a major grade. A table of contents will be
posted on the website and updated regularly.
TARDIES
Tardies will be handled according to school policy. If tardy, students will be
expected to quietly sign in, take a seat, and begin work quietly. Class
disruptions will not be tolerated.
ABSENCES/MAKE-UP WORK
Per school policy, work due the day you were absent must be turned in
when you return to class. For work assigned during your absence, you have
one class day for every missed class day to complete the assignments. ALL
MAKE UP WORK IS THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY. Always feel free to ask
a classmate or check teacher website for missed assignments.
GRADING POLICY
Grades will be calculated using the following formula:
60% - Daily Work (daily assignment, quizzes, etc.)
40% - Tests/Projects
Late work will be managed per school policy.
LEAVING CLASS
Each student will be given 5 passes per semester. These passes should be
used wisely because students will not be given any additional passes once
they are used and will not be allowed to leave the class after that. Students
will be able to turn passes in for bonus points at the end of each semester.
Passes do not roll over to the next semester.
DISCIPLINARY STEPS
I expect every student to come to class prepared to put forth his/her best
effort with the goal of doing what is necessary to achieve success. In
addition to following the Student Handbook rules, students are expected to
exhibit professionalism and respect. Violation of these rules and
expectations will result in the following disciplinary actions:
