The New York Public Library (NYPL) has been an essential provider of free books, information, ideas,

and education for all New Yorkers for more than 100 years. Founded in 1895, NYPL is the nations
largest public library system, featuring a unique combination of 88 neighborhood branches and four
scholarly research centers.
Serving more than 18 million patrons a year, and millions more online, the Library holds more than 51
million items, from books, e-books, and DVDs to renowned research collections used by scholars from
around the world.

THE PROBLEM
How To Set Appropriate Design Goals With Local Community
The mission of The New York Public Library is to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge,
and strengthen communities. NYPL is in early program development for the renovation of NYPLs
largest circulating branch, Mid-Manhattan Library. Given its community oriented mission, NYPL
wanted to include local communitys voice in setting key design goals. Specifically, NYPL sought
to involve communitys key decisions regarding programs offerings, services provided, and
spaces in the renovated library.

THE SOLUTION
Deploy Customer Facing Devices To Collaborate With The Community
NYPL installed iPad based Digital Kiosks with Moki Total Control at key locations.
Patrons use these devices to provide design inputs to NYPL.

Moki Total Control enables NYPL to:

Interact with patrons via Mokis simple and elegant kiosk app.

Secure device and survey app by locking-down iPad. Lock-down ensures that the kiosks are
used for intended purpose only.

Manage survey content and push updates to all kiosks instantaneously.

Analyze Digital Interactions, device status and app health.
