Running Head: Project Plan

Project One: Project Plan

Elizabeth Polaco
Post University

Running head: Project Plan

The main topic for this project is the biological bases of behavior.
This topic is part of a unit in an AP Psychology course. The audience for
this project will be twelfth grade students approximately between the
ages of 17 and 18. This is an advanced placement course, and all
students are expected to complete readings each night to prepare for
the next days lesson.
In order to develop a strong project the first step is to understand
what students already know and what they need reinforcement on.
Through the use of a pre-assessment using Google Forms the teacher
can collect data and demonstrate student knowledge on the content.
For example, the teacher will need to know if the students understand
the basic biological features that help the brain function such as
synapses, and neurons. 8-10% of The AP Psychology exam contains
questions on the biology of behavior, students must have a solid
foundation in this area among other areas of the curriculum to pass the
exam and obtain college credit (Meyers, 2014). From prior experience
and discussion with other educators, this is a difficult unit for many
students, therefore developing an interactive project for the students
could help students comprehend the content better. The survey will be
provided online and students will have the opportunity to complete it
either on their phone or a laptop provided by the school. A preassessment is the best way to reach students because this will give the
instructor a baseline of what students know or do not know (Florida

Center for Instructional Design). The pre-assessment will contain

questions that represent each sub-topic.

There are seven sub-topics that will be used in this project they
are: biological psychology and neurotransmission, the nervous and
endocrine systems, the cerebral cortex, brain hemisphere organization
and the biology of consciousness, behavior genetics; predicting
individual differences, and evolutionary psychology: understanding
human nature. Each of the sub-topics are covered in Unit III: Biological
Bases of Behavior in Myers Psychology Second Edition for AP by David
Myers. For the purpose of this project some of the sub-topics may be
combined. This unit provides students with an overview of the human
body and how it operates. The final project will require students to give
17 areas of the brain either superhero powers, villain powers, or assign
the superheros and villains a sidekick. Students will have to use
technology to complete the tasks. Students will be able to use different
types of technology to execute their final product.
