Course Description
This class will look at many topics in Environmental Science. We will uncover major environmental
topics such as biodiversity, natural resource use, energy, the atmosphere, water, food production, soil,
waste, and pollution, and how the human population fits in the whole Earth system. APES is a
college-level course that will fulfill the 20% College Board and Texas requirements by providing a
large laboratory and field investigation component. This allows students to learn about the
environment through first hand observation and experimentation.
Supplies
1. Interactive Notebook. This must come to class EVERYDAY.
2. Pen/Pencil.
3. Although not required, the following supplies are used daily in our classroom. Bringing in one or
more of the following supplies would be greatly appreciated: box of Kleenex, roll of paper towels,
box of markers, highlighter, pair of scissors, soap, colored paper, glue sticks, scotch tape, or
Ziplock bags (all sizes).
APES Textbook
Our textbook is an e-book that you have access to online. It works on any device with the
internet. We do have a class set at school. It is VERY useful. Please use it!
The codes for these e-books come from the publisher through NEISD and out to us. The class
will enter their codes in mid-September.

Google Drive
We do a lot of assignments on Google Drive. Every student has their own gmail account through the
district.

Absences/Make up Work
My advice is dont be absent! I do understand that some absences are unavoidable. In this event it
is the students responsibility to get all make-up work. Any missed notes will have to be obtained
from another student or off my website. For every class you are absent, the same amount of time is
allowed for your make-up work. For example, if you are absent on Monday and come back to class
on Tuesday, all make up work is due on Wednesday. If you are absent on Thursday and Friday and
return on Monday then your work is due on Wednesday. It is your responsibility to check my website
and get the materials you missed from the bin.
Grading
50% Summative Assessments/FRQs
30% Formative Assessments/ Labs
20% Daily work and Homework
*Checking your students notebook regularly or parent portal are good ways to check your students
progress.
Communication
The best way to reach me is by email! You can check my website for your agendas and assignments.
Also Gradespeed/Parent Portal is updated at least once a week. Please remember, there is a 24
hour delay between when I enter grades and when they upload to parent portal. Feel free to contact
me with any questions or concerns.
