Summary

SPIRITUAL ACTIVITY OF VENEDIKT CREPOVIA CONTRIBUTION FOR

THE HISTORY OF THE MEDIEVAL CULTURE IN THE MIDDLE
POMORAVLJE REGION
Family of the Moravian Crepovi was one of the most important in the period after the death of czar
Duan to the end of the Serbian medieval state. Along with the distiguished military comander, duke Crep,
there is and his son hieromonk Venedikt. He is mentioned in the bull issued by despot Stefan Lazarevich on
June 8 th in 1411, which betray in Jagodna (Jagodina), when he returned the church The Mother of God in
Leje (near Parachin), built by Venedikts ancestors. In that place a PANEGYRIC was copied in 1412 by
order of despot Stefan Lazarevi. In 1426 Venedikt together with monk Jakov transleted SHESTODNEV
OF JOHN CHRYSOSTOMOS from Greek language. Venedikt Crepovi took part in a delegation which in
1452 went into Greece to prepare the transfer of relics of apostle Lucas to Smederevo. He is considered to be
one among authors of the DESCRIPTING OF THE TRANSFER OF THE HOLY RELICS OF ST.
LUCAS. It is also presumed that he wrote the funeral speach for deceased despot Djuradj Brankovich at that
he was the author of other poetry works. His destiny after 1453 cannot be precisely defined. Some thought
that he became the metropolitan of the Graanica and Novo Brdo. During hie see he was given in 1456 a
diploma by despot Djuradj on granting the monastery Vraevnica. After 1459 he retried to monastery of
Saint Paul in the Holy Mountain of Athos where he died. According to others it was thought that he had
been the metropolitan of the Moravski Gradac (today aak). It is also thought that he died like hieromonk.
In any case his work was important indeed not only in the ralm of his own eparchy but also for the Serbian
Despotate.
