CONCEPT, DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION

OF A SMART WASTE MANAGEMENT

SYSTEM
ABSTRACT:
The things of future are no longer smartphones or smart TVs they are
smart cities. A city can be defined as 'smart' when investments in human and
social capital and traditional (transport) and modern (ICT) communication
infrastructure fuel sustainable economic development and a high quality of life,
with a wise management of natural resources, through participatory action and
engagement. But one of the major obstacles a country like India faces in
achieving a smart city is the smart waste management system. The Internet of
Things (IoT) shall be able to incorporate transparently and seamlessly a large
number of different and heterogeneous end systems, while providing open
access to selected subsets of data for the development of a plethora of digital
services. Building a general architecture for the IoT is hence a very complex
task, mainly because of the extremely large variety of devices, link layer
technologies, and services that may be involved in such a system. The proposed
Waste Management system consists of 4 parts 1) Smart Garbage bins 2) Smart
vehicle system 3) Local monitoring hub 4) Central overview. The Waste
Management system reduces the need for manual labour while also providing a
comfortable way for monitoring and controlling the collection of solid wastes in
municipalities. The proposed architecture for the waste management system is
