Why study Adhesives?

1) After the discovery of composite materials and various forms of them, came the
question of how to assemble the composite materials
2) Thus in later years scientists came up with the idea of adhesives and this makes
adhesives one of the important engineering material
3) Being on engineer and also if we are about to make structures using composite
materials. Then we should definitely know about adhesives
4) Thus this chapter has been added in the syllabus to enrich our knowledge about
adhesives
Definition
1) An adhesive is a substance which bonds together the surface of two materials by
strong attachment
2) The two or more surfaces which are bonded by the use of adhesive are known as
adherends
