Adhesive Action (Mechanism of Adhesion)

There are three types of adhesion mechanism and they are as follows
1. Specific Adhesion
2. Mechanical Adhesion
3. Diffusion Adhesion or Fusion Adhesion
1) Specific Adhesion
In Specific adhesion attachment of the adherends is mostly due to physical
(intermolecular) or chemical (valence) form of attraction
2) Mechanical Adhesion
In this type of adhesion, at first the adhesives fill the voids or pores of rough surfaces
and then hold them by interlocking action
3) Fusion Adhesion
In fusion adhesion, the surface of attaching material may partially be dissolved in the
adhesive and bonding takes place after assembling and solidification
