Green Chemistry
Why study Green Chemistry
1) As an engineer, we all will someday be producing things that are by products of
certain reactants
2) Bu what if the byproducts turn out to be harmful to the environment and is also
harmful to living beings on our planet
3) Thus in order to be capable of producing extremely eco friendly products the
knowledge of green chemistry is very important and thus chapter has been included
in the syllabus
Introduction
1) The population of human beings on earth has crossed a huge mark of 7 billion. Thus
to fulfill the demands of such a huge population the products of daily need should
also be produced in large number
2) To act upon the above idea a large number of industries has been established which
produce goods to fulfill demands of human beings
3) But in doing so they use harmful chemicals as reactants which produces the product
but on other hand it caused harm to our environment
4) Thus to exercise control over use of harmful chemicals the concept Green
Chemistry has come up. Which put a number of restrictions on industries and
suggest a number of ways to produce eco friendly goods
5) Basically the whole concept of Green Chemistry lies within the 12 principles of Green
Chemistry, originally suggested by Paul Anastas and John Warner and they are well
accepted by the chemists all over the world
