Tutorial Times: Wednesdays during Excel or by appointment. If any student
has a question or concerns I strongly encourage them to speak with me as
soon as possible.
Class Supplies: A single subject (8 x 11 inch) spiral notebook (70-100
pages), due by Friday, August 26th.

Students will use the spiral for Texas History only and it should stay in
my classroom. This spiral will be used for note taking, activities, and
daily assignments. Students should ask permission before taking their
notebook from the classroom.

Textbook: Texas History. McGraw Hill Education, 2016.

Online accessible through the Cloud at www.my.austinisd.org. Use your


student ID and password to log in. Search McGraw Hill in the search
bar and the red McGraw Hill icon should appear. Click on the icon and
you will have full access to the student textbook.

Grading Policy:

Major Grades (tests and projects) worth 40% of overall grade


Quiz Grades (quizzes, current events, notebook checks) worth 35% of
overall grade
Daily Grades (participation, class work, homework, warm ups) worth
25% of overall grade

Late Work: In accordance with all seventh grade teachers at Gorzycki


Middle School, the following late work policy will be used:

5 points off for each time the assignment is late, with a maximum
deduction of 20 points (4 days)
Additionally, failing grades may be corrected to receive a maximum of
70% on that assignment

Make Up Work: Students who miss class due to an excused absence will
have up to three school days to complete their work. After the third day, the
late policy will go into effect.
Technology:
Gorzycki is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Campus and we will use
technology on a regular basis in class. Students may bring their own devices
to class (even though it is not mandatory). However, student will only use
their devices in accordance with the conditions outlined in the GMS student
planner.
Google Classroom:
Many class assignment will be accessible and completed through Google
Classroom. Students will be invited to join my Google classroom through
their AISD e-mail address, and we will go through a tutorial in class. Students
will submit assignments and receive a grade through Google classroom. I
encourage the students and parents to frequently visit the site to ensure that
assignments are completed by their deadlines. All assignments will also be
posted on my Gorzycki website under the orange To Do tab.

Course Description and Topics of Study


Texas History is a survey course where students will explore the geography
and history of Texas. See the schedule below for an overview of the topics we
will be studying this year.
1st Six Weeks: People, places, and government
2nd Six Weeks: Exploration and Colonization

3rd Six Weeks: The Texas Revolution


4th Six Weeks: From Republic to Reconstruction
5th Six Weeks: Economic and Social Changes
6th Six Weeks: Texas in the 20th and 21st Century
