Junior Achievement of the VI
Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide is the worlds largest organization dedicated to helping
young people understand the
economics of life and the Free
Enterprise System. JA has
worked in partnership with the
private sector and educators in
fulfilling its mission and vision. JA
Worldwide works in over 119
countries with over 8 million
students, to change the way our
next generation of leaders looks
at their role in the world.

About Alpine

Locally, Junior Achievement was


revitalized in 2008 and granted
approval by the V.I. Department
of Education to operate within
the territorys schools. The program has successfully reached
hundreds of students in public,
private and parochial schools on
all three islands.

JAVIs success is in part due to


the efforts of Alpine Securities,
specifically, Managing Partner,
Charles Kim. He is committed
to this programs success as he
himself was a student of JA and
has had the opportunity to serve
on every level of Junior Achievement as a student, volunteer,
supporter and now a Board
Member representing the VI and
the Caribbean within the JA
Americas regional office. Mr.
Kim believes, This is a proven
program that works. I have seen
the impact of the program and
know that it can have a transformative impact on the students of
our community.
Alpines, Charles Kim and Chief
of External Affairs, Jason Charles
are very involved with the local
program. In addition to their

roles in the recruitment, training


and Board, Alpine also commits
$40,000 annually to Junior
Achievement.

To insure that every child in the


Americas (United States Virgin Islands) has a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise system by which to create new economic opportunities that benefit
their communities.

Junior Achievement of the
Caribbean held its third annual
Caribbean Conference on St.
Thomas, USVI from June 1st to
3rd , 2016. Managing Partner
of Alpine Securities and Regional Junior Achievement
Board Member, Charles Kim
co-hosted this event with JAVI
at the Marriot Frenchmans
Reef Hotel. Junior

Achievement Executive Directors and Board members gathered to discuss topics such as:
strategic planning, fundraising,
challenges and best practices.
The following countries participated in this years summit:
Turks and Caicos, St. Kitts,
U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Lucia,
Board members meet at Government House St.
Granada, The Bahamas and
Thomas, June 2016 with Lieutenant Governor,
Jamaica.

Friday, July 29th. Alpine Securities USVI, LLC and White
Bay Group, organizers of the
competition, revealed the
donation amount from this
years event held on June 4th.

The King of the Wing is a


chicken wing cook-off that is

held at Magens Bay Beach.


Teams consisting of top local
restaurants, businesses, organizations and chicken wing
connoisseurs cook up mouthwatering chicken wing recipes
to wow the attendees and
claim bragging rights for the
best tasting wings on the island. This is all done to raise
money for a great cause.
This years beneficiary, Junior
Achievement of the Virgin
Islands (JAVI) is a 501(c)3

recognized organization dedicated to helping prepare young


people in the Virgin Islands
gain real world financial skills
needed to flourish in today's
global economy. JAVI has
programs tailored to various
education levels from elementary to high school, including
after school programs. Since
2010, approximately 3,000
students territory wide, attending both public and private
schools, have benefited from
Junior Achievements training.
In addition to raising crucial
funds for local charities of the
Virgin Islands, the King of the
Wing has become a premier
event on island. Starting with
fifteen teams in 2010, the
event has rapidly grown and
raised over $305,000 in its
first six years. King of the
Wing 2016, the largest to date
with more than 41 participating teams and celebrity judges,
CS Lee, Chris Oh and Ghost
Face Killah, succeeded in raising $58,783.01!

Andrew Park joins Antilles School Board


Alpine Partner and Chief of Operations, Andrew Park has recently joined the Board of Trustees of the Antilles School on St. Thomas. Andrew will work with the board in conjunction
with Antilles new Head of School, Liz Morrison to further the standard of educational excellence in the US Virgin Islands.
In consideration of his special skills and knowledge, Andrew has been designated to work both
in the Finance and Investment sub-committees of the board. Antilles board members serve on
a volunteer basis for a term of three years and can be renewed a limited number of times.

We recognize the importance of extracurricular activities. Alpine contributes to many
initiatives outside the classroom to help students pursue their musical or athletic passions.
This year, we presented a donation to the
Ivanna Eudora Kean High School for two
students to travel to a band competition in
Washington, DC.

This summer we donated to a variety of sport


organizations including the:

Zero Tolerance Basketball Org.

Sky High Volleyball Inc.

OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS

Banco Populars Ultimate Flavors of the


Islands where young local chefs apprentice
with seasoned professionals in the culinary
field, proceeds benefitting the Raphael
Wheatley Skills Center (St. Thomas Culinary
School).

Cancer Support VI Fund which has donated


over 1 million dollars to cancer patients on

Employee Family Fun Day


Alpine believes a profitable workforce is one
where the employees can grow, succeed and
have some fun too.
Every quarter the Alpine Team and their families come together for a Fun Day. This summer
Alpine headed to our neighbors in the British
Virgin Islands for a family oriented team building hike, swim and lunch at the bubbling pool in
Jost Van Dyke.
Previous events included 8 Tuff Miles, Walk for
Wishes, various fundraising galas to include,
Cancer Support VI, St. Thomas Historical Trust
and various school galas.
